So I'm sat here writing a list of things I need......3 dustbins for feed, got my own wheelbarrow, fork and spade....need a broom....

If people store their own hay, will some taurpaulin be sufficient to cover it and keep it dry?

How much hay do you use for 2 horses that are in at night (I usually give 3 sections a night).

All a bit scary having to think for yourself!!

i have 1 on DIY and i use between 4/5 bales a week of hay depending on the weather.. horse is 16h out from 7am to 5.30pm if that helps you.. gets about 3/4 sections a day.

so if i were you i would guess you would use no more than 7 bales a week.. leaving a little extra over for emergencies..

I think.. But remember Summer grass is coming so you will start to be using less hay at night soon..

Six or seven bales a week. You may be able to get it delivered on a weekly basis from your feed merchant, along iwth bedding and hard feed. Makes life a lot easier! Will you need to secure your stuff ie lockable trunks?

Quite lucky that behind each stable is a sort of alleyway that has a lockable door so I can store stuff behind each stable...hence my post for a lockable tack store..!

I've just gone from full livery to DIY on a new yard. So glad I did it. Much more time with my boys now as moved them closer to home

Feed buckets
Water Buckets
Haynets
Feed scoops
Wormer

thanks - got all that stuff. I hated full livery - felt like I was going to a riding school to ride! My boys are on assisted DIY but never done full DIY.....difference is I do a 1 hour round trip in teh evenings to see them - soon it will be 10 minutes!!

When I moved a friend helped me with what I would need - so much to think about!! My boys were 30mins away but now only 10. I am in a yard with only 4 and 2 of them are mine - I feed and turn all 4 out in the mornings before work and then the other lady brings them in of an evening - I just pop in when I finish work to check on them, skip out and pick feet. You may find you are able to make an arrangement with someone at your new place. Good luck with your move!!

Good luck with your move. Wish I could go back to DIY but I work away away quite a lot so it's not fair on her cos she loves a routine. The good news is she still whinnys when she sees me
