Going down in hind legs when being mounted?

Very interesting that nobody has ever mentioned the horse simply having a 'cold back', some horse's can sometimes act in this manner when a cold saddle is put on, I had an Arab who used to that sometimes, but was never lame or had any problems at all, but I am not saying that there may not be a problem somewhere in your case .:)

I think i read earlier that she has had pain behind the saddle before? Ignore me if i read wrong....

My mare is now 15 (had her since 5) and has terrible problems with her ovaries & tubes, in particular her right one, she doesn't ovulate very well as has a twisted tube that side and so just before she seasons she almost buckles if you try to get on and even acts as if she has colic whilst the egg fights it way down the tube, she walks as though she has a broomstick stuck up her bottom.

Now she has always shown a bit of soreness behind the saddle despite multitudes of examinations and different saddles it never went away or was diagnosed properly until i called the vet out several yrs ago yet again for suspected colic and upon internal examination she felt like her right side had a golf ball stuck up there, she twiddled around in there a bit (technical terms - LOL) and hey presto egg started to release and instant relief from my mare.

Winter is no problem at all, spring & autumn are awful and if she shows any sign whatsoever we don't even attempt to ride and she'll have a few days of Danilon until it releases again. Does your mare stand camped under herself at all? This is one of the things my girl does if she is having a particular bad season, she will hunch her back legs under almost as if she is trying to curl herself up and continually alternate resting her hinds. It has almost become a habit to be honest as even when she is perfectly fine she will still rest a hind constantly even in the stand up for the Judge.......

We also never get straight on her after saddling, always walk up the yard and back to relax her just in case as this seems to help sometimes. Just another idea into the mix, it can be managed and i know exactly how she feels as i have the same problem even down to the same side.................

BOYSY - interesting aspect to throw in the mix! I hope I get to the bottom of it and that it is something that can be easily fixed! Thanks everyone for thoughts and advice and apologies if I got a bit defensive earlier ...x
