Has anyone from the UK sent horses over to Ireland for any of the sales? Or any experience of the sales etc. Disclaimer, I don’t think I could put a horse through a sale even an elite sale but a full sibling of a youngster I have at home went for very very good money through the G4G sale and I also have 2 others same age very similar breeding. I always buy on conformation never breeding so I need a crash course really on the best plan for the 3 baby Ferrari sports horses I have at (2 yr old ISH Financial Reward) home. I hsve friends who have had horses in Go4gold and it seems most people send them to a professional producer to get videos xrays etc done and the horses have all been broken and riding and most have competed.

Thanks for the reply, it’s the 3 year old sale so I think they are unbacked. I cringe enough trying the 3 year olds at home over a pole so I’d never cope watching people hoping on and off the babies! I know they need to qualify for G4G and then have a full vetting etc.

I would think they would be expected to lunge over a pole - Ive seen 3yr olds there lunged over 4ft.
Or they may loose jump them, like the Young Irelander.

Yeah they send them down a jumping lane in the sales ring and have videos etc. 4ft ? … fairly certain it’s not for me but still fascinating to learn about. There’s nothing really like that over here is there, Ireland reminds me of Germany with their concentration on breeding and production of sports horses as a business.

Not so regulated or state controlled thank god - we still have individuality!!

Was there possibly a sale like this at Brightwells or Bolesworth or something in the last year or so?

It'd be an expensive route to go down - it'd cost about £600 to ship one to Ireland, with all the health checks etc now required, for shipping into the EU.
I chatted to a friend of mine about exactly this last year - he produces stallions for gradings as well as horses for the top sales over there. Depending on how much he had to do and how long he needed, he quoted me approx €1000 in production costs. (To be fair, that was for a ridden horse)
You'd need to be confident you'd get enough back to make it worth it.

The G4G and top Goresbridge sales sell to a lot of overseas buyers, so they'll be buying off the video as well as the breeding. Fashionable breeding and good conformation will get you the best price obviously!

It’s very clicky and prices can be fixed. You need to be very sure of your raw goods and then invest in sending the horse to a big producer. It’ll be a bit of a gamble, not something I’d do from the UK

Bolesworth I believe do a young stock sale I believe. I can’t see myself putting them through a sale really I just wanted more info about it, I like to vet homes and obviously anyone could buy them at a sale. I did however buy the horse in my avatar at Brightwells Elite sale, never again.

This is what I was wondering if people do actually do this I guess it’s similar to yearling prep for the blood stock sales. Interesting and I’d love to see the process but putting one of mine through that I’m not so sure.

Thank you, how does the fixed pricing work? The clickeyness doesn’t surprise me it’s how these things role I guess.
