I am thinking about viewing a horse that sounds really suitable for me, but it is 15.1 cob and I am used to a 16.2 sports horse . I am 5.5 and not over heavy, but wonder if I would find it diifficult to change down so to speak. wanted a cobby type, not about breed/type merely sizewise! Getting all excited about going to try but dont want to waste owners time really

I went from a 16.3 WB to a 15 hand gypsy cob - no problems and found Jemima far easier to sit to and ride - but I am a short arse.

I regularly go from 16.3 to 15.1 - as these are the sizes of our horses.

Most cobs ride far bigger than they stand.

I used to share a 17hh warmblood and have now bought my first horse - he's a cob gelding and 14.3hh. I had no intention of getting a horse this small but he's just superb.

They height and breed doesn't come into it, as long as its capable of doing the things you want and you both work together.

If anything, my new man is more than a handful - cheeky, stubborn, bloody minded lol

Oh and just so happens that I can get on from the floor (which is a great help when I'm out and about)

I've recently gone to from a 15.2 TB to a 14.1 (just!) arab x welsh. He feels bigger due to the welsh in him.

I didn;t find it a problem at all. I can get on from the ground again easily too! the only weird thing is when i ride my 15.2 - he feels huuuuge!!

I'm 5'10 and went from a 16.3hh TB to 15.1hh FAT connie. Due to the huge width of him, I don't really feel the height difference, it would be much worse if he were a 15.1 skinny TB.

5'3 - that is huge - I officially failed making 5' by 1/4", but saying 4'11 and 3/4s is too long so I say I am 5'

Problem is that the petite range of clothing is for people of 5'3 - so still too damm long for me - they need to make a seriously short range for us little folks and also realise that short does not mean skinny - we need very short size 12 and 14s to be more available.

I'm 5'10" ish and have just gone from 16.3hh Ex-racehorse to a 15.2/3 Cobx and its the best decision i've ever made, having loads of fun, and feel so secure! give it a go, and i'm sure you wont be wasting anyones time. does take a bit of getting used to though - especially getting off, i always land sooner then i'm expecting!

Ah you all complain about being short, but you forget when we have all got the straw out our hair and got the wellies off, your the ones who get to wear the killer heels and not resemble a stick insect standing taller than the men!

you lucky ones!

Hear Hear!! I bought a pair of sticky bum jods in my 'size' and I've got turn up that come half way back up my calves

Oh and getting off a shorter horse, yeah you wait for the graceful few seconds mid-air but that don't happen any more its a case of leg over and bump!

Hopefully it is a chunky cob I like a wide base of support so to speak! Ive got butterflies in my tum now and Im not seeing him for 2 days (thats of course if he hasnt gone). Its not the distance from the ground is it, its the horse that surrounds you so to speak! If its got a short neck though I will struggle as I always feel Im going out the front door. Wasnt going to look for another until the new year, if at all, but came across this one, perhaps its an omen.

Well come on then get us all involved

How did you find him, what colour is he and why do you like this one?

I tried loads of horses before I got my boy and to be honest it was the most stressful thing I've done in a long while. I thought it was supposed to be an exciting experienced.

Maybe I just found all the mad horses and liars lol

Found through a friend of a friend, only spoken to owner today.Coloured lad and safe hack, which is what Im looking for mostly.Never had anything under 15.3 though and must admit I do like Big horses. Well can only try and if its to be it will be!

my two are 16.2 warmblood and 14hh cobby little powerhouse and i jump them in the same classes at shows without any problem. i think going down in size is probably easier than going up. when i broke in a welsh cob last year it felt bigger than it looked cos of the width of it

Think it all depends on the horses stride. I would find a small cob irritating if it has a short choppy stride, much sooner have a nice flowing decent length stride.

I went from a 16.3 tb, to a 17.3 tb and then down to a 15.3 tb and i know what i prefer. I always used to be of the bigger is better school, but actually i'd have my 15.3 over a 17.3 any day. He's fun, quick and agile, where as the 17.3 seemed to take forever to get anywhere, even with his massively long legs. Oh and i'm 5'5" when i stretch and a bit of a lump, but D is perfectly happy with me on his back, he's the one in my siggy.

Oh I ride all sizes!! I regularly hop from a 14hh cob to a 17hh ISH. From my 15hh LW to a 16.2hh MW, and may soon be downsizing for winter to a 14.1hh 3yo, then when it comes to buying a new one I hope to upgrade to a 16.1-17.1hh!!!

You'll be fine

I went from a 16’2 IDxTB to a 15hh cob and I would never go back. Didn’t take me any time at all to get use to having something smaller. Go for it!

Well Iam off to see him tomorrow, only thing he is quite expensive for his age he is 14.I have only ever paid about £2500 max for something younger, but I know that safe sane hacks do fetch good money.
