Erm, my sisters 16.2 tb has 4 slices a night and my 14.3, very good doer, welsh d has one slice double netted a night. She goes through roughly 3 bales a week if they dont come in early due to weather or are in for worming.

I use rounds for my 16.2hh IDXTB and my 11.1hh Sec A, i can use 5 squares a week easily in winter if in at night, if out 24/7 im looking at 8-9 squares a week, a round lasts me much longer, just got one today £30.

Yes I usually use a large bale per month in the summer and 2 in the winter.

I think I may have had a brainwave! As I use square bales I can have them delivered into the yard, then open the bale and carry it bit by bit into the shed. Bit time consuming perhaps but still a hell of a lot cheaper! Main issue is the door into the shed - it's slightly smaller than a normal door so whilst space enough inside I can't get it through the door!

Sorry missed this - Horsham is doable depending on price - it's about 40 mins drive from me. Yard in Chelsham, me near Godstone.

Last year I think he was about £4.50 off the field. I don't think he delivers (although I've never bothered to ask!). Would you like his number?

As an aside, do you have anywhere at home to put a few large bales at a time? I can't store large bales, either, but have bought some cheaper ones this year (wrapped hay), so am keeping them under a tarp at home, planning to take up a bit at a time for winter. A pain, but worth it for the price saving!

Thanks for that, my cob is a typical native so gets fat just looking at food! I let him build up towards the end of summer then have him coming out of winter lean so he is less of a lami risk in the spring. TB is an OK doer as she managed to put on 100kg in 2 months with 1 slice haylage a day (large bale) and 2 feeds of readymash extra with very little grazing.

Yes please. :) No space to store anything at home as haybarn full (live on a farm) of LL's own (large bale ) hay and haylage.
