I'm taking Jazz - no brakes - horse hunting on Monday! I have sorted the brake issues - pelham (two reins), grakle and martingale.

However, I haven't been since the ban (that was with the B&SV as well - going with Taunton Vale Harriers this time).

Is it much different now?

I would say based on what I saw when I went out with the Harriers - No.

Harriers aren't a particularly fast pack I don't think, fair amount of road work when I've been out with them but some good gallops.

I am v. v. v. jealous. Being pregnant is extremely boring when everyone else is going hunting and you have to be endlessly sensible. Have a wonderful time!!!!

Thanks J!

I'm already getting nervous! I haven't been for ages and taking a horse who's never been, has a brake prob and trips! Should be fun! I'm sure Jazz will enjoy it though.

If the harriers are slow then that'll be good - should give me time to regain control etc.

It won't be long before you're back out and about! You gain a baby out of it as well!

X

I will be using a phelam this year but with the roundings. I just couldnt deal with two sets of reins, especially when my horse decides to launch herself over drains etc from a standstill.

I took Jazz is this tack to a fun ride earlier in the year and I had NO idea how he'd behave so went for the two bits option (by having two reins!). Turned out he was fine so knotted the curb bt had it there if I needed it so he was basically in a hanging cheek with a curb chain!
I don't like roundings for the reason that you don't have the option of reins - you're just pulling on both! Just my humble opinion though x

FYI went to a charity ride on Sun, used the v. phelam with roundings. Was very pleased with her. Even lighter in my hands than I expected.

Hope you enjoyed your day on Monday.

have fun, am not at all jealous
