Going on fun rides alone?

I am in exactly the same boat :D.

After a few years out of the endurance world I am determined to do some rides next year. Next year is all about me and my pony having some fun ;).

But most of my friends aren't into doing more than the odd local ride :/.

My horse is sensible but cannot cope with being alone, so I need to know I will be riding with someone or there's no point in going.

I am in Lancashire but am happy to travel to rides within 3 hour's drive.

I also want to do some rides with Equine Ramblers (Wales) and Classic Hackers (Cumbria).

I'm in York too and always happy to find new hacking buddies! Fjordhorsefan very kindly met up with me for a Ride Yorkshire fun ride just after I'd moved to Yorkshire and she's lovely - I still owe her another one after my neddy lost a shoe and we had to turn back after three hundred yards! :P

Ha I'm near York too...not currently got a rideable horse and movement restrictions and upsetting the neds can limit what I do with the cows but can borrow a ned if needed or share the cow! ;) I'm awrite in small doses, honest!

I often prefer riding on my own at rides, especially on one of mine as she is bonkers. At the endurance you will see a lot of people riding alone, but will often meet up with people who are happy to ride round with people, I know I've met and ridden with some lovely people.

Lol, you name the furthest you'd go & I'll see if thats the 'middle' :biggrin3:

I used to do runs to/past Penrith, but need to allow 6 hrs rolling time from here (tho can be done in just under 5 if all is good)
Preston is around 4 hrs (used to do lairage there too)

Obviously if riding on a distance/pleasure ride of 3 hrs+ or visit I tend to keep under 2 hrs driving, if longer distance than will go for overnight stop over :)

I think 2.5 hour's drive (from Blackpool) for a ride would be my limit at the moment. I could do an overnight if travelling longer than that.

I'm happy to drive all day...but I have to consider The Tank's feelings on the matter and in truth - he just wants to stay in the field at home :D

Danceswithcows, it would be my absolute nightmare if you brought a cow. Im scared of them!

Oberon, my geography isn't good, but Im sure Lancashire is fairly close to Yorkshire? So its doable :)

Liking the sounds of these possible meet ups, keeping the horses at home can be rather lonely at times, & would love to be getting my older mare back out again.

How about we add links on this thread then saying where we'd like to go, or any sponsored/fun-rides or events we fancy going to, and anyone that wants to do the same can do :)

Loz I know how you feel, I AM on a small livery yard but I may as well be on my own!

I have them all listed on a Word document already :p

Oy, dosey woman, we're in Cas too and you'd be under our EGB group :) :) :) :) We don't bite and we can always buddy you up with someone :) We've got Rothwell (x2), Nostell (x2), Broddy, Last of the Summer Wine (Holmfirth) and S Yorks (Moorhouse/Frickley) running again next year, we've got Breaks Fold hopefully running as a 2 dayer, and we're hoping to have a couple of other new rides too. Plus North Yorks have got a busy season lined up - plenty to keep you busy. You would be more than welcome at any of them and quite a few people come on their own. You won't be friendless for long, trust me ;)

ps If you want to come to our West Riding group annual meeting and prizegiving and meet a few people beforehand, that's in Whitwood in Jan - details will be on the website next week.
