i am going to out of the country for a weeks holiday and ive got a groom coming to look after my horse every other day, as my dad will check on her the other days. just wondered if people could help me make a list to leave her. shes not got any of her own stuff as she normaly works at the local riding stables so i need to leave her a grooming kit and a list of emergancy numbers but not should which numbers and if she will need medical stuff in the grooming kit or not

thanks:)

I normally leave my headcollar, leadrope stuff they may need accessible. I give them a day in the life of and tell YO what I have organised. I make sure the vets know I give permission for any treatments ( some vets will not come out without owners permission) If it was me looking after someone elses horse I would prefer more information than less I wouldnt want to use my own horses stuff on another horse.
Hope this helps;)

I'll try and think of a few things, Ive not been on holiday for a while so a bit out of practise.

Rugs and Flysheets
Fly Repellant?
Medical kit
Flymask?
Any feed or supplement requirements - ready made up by you?
Any treats
Stable ready made up and supply of hay/bedding in case of emergency stabling needed
Farrier/Vet tel nos (and your Dads)
Any money to cover anything like for example - carrots
Grooming kit etc

Hope this helps

shes in the field and dads doing the feed so thats sorted

shes not in rugs at the moment so that easy

and thanks you i have added most of the rest to my list and given her a what to do if this happens little essay.

i will let the vet know that i give permission for my dad and her to autherise treatments but i want them both to autherise it, is this fair?

head collar and lead rope are on the gate and ready

thank you very much for your help

Hi
I don't know where your field is or how easy it is to access, but it makes me uncomfortable to think you are leaving your headcollar and leadrope on the gate.
I don't want to worry you unnecessarily when you are about to go away. If your field is easily accessible to the public, any "opportunist joyrider" could catch your horse and have a play on him/her, and you would be making it easy for them.
Is there anywhere to hide your headcollar and leadrope, or could you give one to your dad and a spare to your friend?

dont worry they can just take her away they would have to catch her and thats not easy unless you can read her and they would have to go though padlock gates and a working yard so im not to worried but thanks anyway

I work as a freelance groom and do alot of holiday cover. I always visit the horse and owner first and get them to run through their usual routine and show me where everything is kept. I dont use my own stuff in case of cross contamination.

Then i get them to fill in a form for me which details what feed the horse has, emergency contact for vet, farrier and an emergency contact for the horse (such as a friend of the owner that knows the horse well to be contacted in a not-such-an-emergency-scenario).

The i take the form along with me each day as reference. Just as long as you give all the basics i am sure it will be fine!
