I've found some grazing just over the road from my house but having only been on livery yards for as long as I can remember, I'm not sure what the going rate would be for renting the land so want to be sure I'm not being ripped off? It's yet to be confirmed which bit I could get but I think the field's about 2 acres and the fencing will need sorting. Not even 100% there's water. Seeing as I can get livery for £25pw with tack room, school, grazing, stable etc. I was thinking (or hoping) a max of £80 per month??

farmers round here charge £100/acre/year - thats far more than they'd get for cattle etc grazing...
ooor - some seem to charge £10/week/horse...
i'm in perthshire btw ;)

Location will have a bearing on the price, but I pay £100 per month for a 2 acre private field. It has a field shelter and automatic water trough.
However, I have found that 2 acres is not really enough for 2 horses, so have rented some land next door which was unfenced. I have sectioned it off with wooden posts and electric tape. It is about 1 acre and I pay £10 per week for this.

Thanks both :)

This is ex-farmer's land that until recently was just being used for cattle and sheep for a few months of the year however a local eventer is now renting all of it. I'm just hoping to rent a small proportion of it from the eventer but I suppose it really depends how much she's paying the farmer.

I'll aim for about £15pw but guess it depends on the size of what I'm given. I'll be putting my own field shelter in, fingers crossed negotiations go to plan!!

where I keep chippie were 'graded' on the size of the horse a shettie being £5 16hh being £10, I pay £7.50 for chippie pw (14.3hh) with water (not automatic) and mains electric fencing :)

I rent a private area with a friend - lovely grazing, 2 stables, post and rail wooden fencing well maintained, 4 acres. Very quiet and private with no other people.:D:D We can have field shelters if we wish. Water but no electricity, automatic troughs. Adjacent to a bridleway and it has private locked access. It is in a "nice" part of Surrey and we pay £450 a month between us - but it is lovely and a good price for round here. We were offered another 5 acre plot but this had shared access, and shared storage areas and needed new fencing and was more off the beaten track. It was not so "nice" and was only £200 a month - this also had water but no electricity.

I rent 2 and a half acres for £600 per year...it has no facilities at all and no water or elec to it...just a field of grass. I pay a local farmer to maintain it on top of my rent - hedges cut, harrowing, muck removal etc and paid out £300 for ditches to be dug to help drainage last year...a worthwhile investment even though it is not my field.
I was allowed to put a field shelter up so I have a stable (mobile) for my lad and a spare stable to store hay in...but these belong to me.
