As title really- I'm looking for a trustworthy person to muck out, groom and walk/ride out (as per vets instructions) my 1 horse on weekday mornings for the next 3 months. He's very easy to do and is a real gentleman, but can be cheeky and I would want a competent rider on board especially as he's on box rest.

I imagine it would take about 1 1/2 hours once he's up to more walking. Any idea what is a fair pay for this? What sort of rate do you pay?

I'd guess it's a little more down south but we pay £8 per hour for non riding chores when on hols.
Riding I'd expect to pay more to get someone who's not going to do something daft! (but then I trust no one to ride my pony)

Thanks, that sounds about what I was thinking. The most important thing for me is to have someone I know is sensible and will follow any instructions- want to make sure we have done everything to the letter!

He's only on 10 mins walk out atm, increasing by 5 mins a week. Would you agree a flat rate for the average time over the 3 months? Or calculate their time spent and increase accordingly each week?

Talk to the person you find and see what they'd prefer but I'd pay for the time it takes each week, and increase what you pay as you increase how much exercise he needs.
You wouldn't want to find someone does a month getting paid over the odds then can't do the next two months for some reason and you're out of pocket.

I'm a freelance groom in Berkshire and I charge £15 for the first hour and £10 per hour after. I know it sounds high but tbh otherwise with the driving ect, it's not worth my time. I get a lot of people wanting me to drive 12-15 miles for an hours work and it's not really worth it after the pretrol & travelling time otherwise.
