If you are then please have bring any spare snaffle bits you have cluttering up your tackroom. Horsology are working with The Gambia Horse & Donkey Trust to replace the traditional rope and wire bits with kind snaffles.

Lots more about the campaign here http://horsology.co.uk/ but if you are going to Badminton you can drop them off at Morgan Equine on stand 193.

If you aren't visiting the show, there's collection points across the UK with more being added daily - list of them here http://horsology.co.uk/donate-bits/

Thank you :)

I have several bits that i would be happy to donate. There are no collection places anywhere in Kent and very sadly am not going to badminton.
I wouldnt mind taking donations from people and sending them in bulk ? would it be better to get one of the tack shops involved ?

Good cause, I have seen this done before. I think small ones are most useful and I think they accept similar bits e.g. french link.

Thanks all, to answer the questions

1) There's more collection points being added every day so bound to be something in Kent soon - can you tell me who your local tack shop is & I'll see if they'll get involved.

2) Yes all snaffles, smaller ones especially and nickel are fine too

3) There will be collection points at most big events all summer, confirmed so far are Chatsworth Horse Trials, Somerford Premier League, Pony Club Champs (drop off on RJ Equine Stand). Hickstead Derby & RIHS - donate directly to the Gambia Horse & Donkey Trust stand. HOYS - drop off point TBC

Thanks all :)

Dropped mine off, lovely lady on stand was a bit confused but then realised it does say on their leaflet they take bits for The Gambia. They also donate a new bit with each bracelet they sell.

I was lucky enough to go on holiday to the Gambia last year and went on a beach ride whilst there. I have to say I was impressed by the standard of care offered to these ponies given the circumstances, as I had a horse I was proudly shown the 'stable' and grazing land by their owners and was happy to spend my money on a ride. But out on tours we also saw less well looked after creatures & so it really is a good cause, the ones I saw were the lucky one!
Don't have any snaffles going spare but if people do please donate them :)

Hi Dizzy, there are more collection points being arranged daily - where's your closest saddlery & I'll ask them if they'll consider being a collection point.
