I am excited but so nervous at same time. We really like this breed but they do seem to have a number of health problems attached...

Can anyone offer any advice or support when going to view them and what things we should be asking?

I can also PM anyone they website of the breeder, they are AKC assured.

Ask to see health certificates. Check the KC website to see if they have all the tests they claim. I'm surprised the breeder hasn't got buyers lined up as an AKC breeder

Website is not up to date which is not always a bad thing but not/no longer on the club comittee as claimed and no health test results coming up on the kennel club health test checker. No mention of HD on the website that I can see.

Maybe ask about AS & HD screening?

Yes I looked at the health test finder and couldn't see tests for either of the parents. She said that they have been tested for heart murmurs and they are clear or low grade 1 I think. Do not believe that they have been tested for hip displaysia.

Always check both parents have been heart checked and have a clear or 0 score and ask to see the certificates.
You should be able to view the mum at least and in many cases both parents so you can asses their confirmation / temprement etc...
Always ask to see the 5 generation pedigree.

Most reputable breeders will have people on waiting lists to buy their pups before they are even born and will quiz any prospective buyers before they will sell to them! We brought our last boxer from a great breeder and she only left us last year at the grand old age of 14. We contacted the breeder to let them know and she said her brother had only just passed away at the same age. We have now located a new litter through her contacts and pick up our new pup at the end of June. I would say it is very much worth making sure you use a reputable show breeder due to the possible health risks you mention.

Good luck though, they are the best breed in the world and we would never have anything else now :)

Not even the basic eye test? :(

I have looked at number of litters different breeds too and havent seen health test for eyes done. For this breed it is recommended that they have heart and hips done, I haven't spoken directly with breeder.

I know that they have been heart tested clear but unsure if they have had hips done.

Spoke to a boxer breeder at ring craft tonight. Heart results can be checked on the British boxer club website under health. Only grade 0 or 1 should be bred from if the dog and bitch are not on the list then either they have not been tested or are 2 or above. Very few boxers are hip scored!!!!! Hope this helps

I'd also look at a breeder that has the 6 week free puppy insurance cover for boxer pups aswell, but that's just me :D

Good luck on finding your new pup - love love love boxers :D

It's not on the kc page for some reason not that I can find anyway but she will show us the certificate on the day when we visit. Is there anything I need to look for to check the certificate is legitimate?

Sometimes reports can be missed off the KC site but hip score sheets have been posted on this forum recently. Possibly by Murphysminder? They should have the dam's and should have a copy of the sire's certificate.
The assured breed scheme requires that hips be scored as well as AS tested for in boxers.
