So I didn't intend to really start looking for my own horse yet, no real reason why not, just trying to put sensible head on and not rush into anything but.....

I saw this one for sale and she really does seem to be such an exceptionally good deal and sounds lovely so I couldn't resist.

She has been out of work for a year so needs to get fit but then so do I

She is 13 and 15.1 loves jumping and can be keen to get to the jumps but supposed to be very good and well mannered when hacking, on the ground etc.

I'm going with an open mind and if she isn't right for me then so be it another one is waiting for me.

so knowledgable people anything you think I should ask about or specifically look for as I hven't bought a horse for quite a number of years?

Not sure if I want to put the link on...she is such a good deal someone might get in there before me

Always a little worried by horses that have been out of work. Ask lots of questions about why she has been out of work. Seen too many people buy horses who were 'turned away because the owner didn't have time' who went lame within six months with old injuries. Don't want to put a dampner on it but just beware.

Link doesn't work.

As said be careful, I know horses that are bought sound then once the work increases become lame or unridable eg the horse is insane when fit! All I'm saying is bare in mind that a horse out the field can be a different horse once in work. And question that someone would leave a decent horse in a field for a year before deciding to sell because there busy. Often there are riders about if you look.

Good luck

I would at least go and try it - looks like an honest type - and a lot for the money....so be wary. If you like him, get a professional out with you....and get a vetting!

She looks a nice type. I would deffinately go take a look at her, there could be a genuine reason she's been out of work, i wouldn't let that put you off.

Good luck x

write down a list of questions to ask. I had a list of about 30 questions to ask whenever I rang up about a pony. If you don't write them down you will forget them when you're there!

Definately worth a look in my opinion, my horse was totally unfit when I bought him, and he has proved to be star buy, don't let it put you off.

Horse vetting a must, and just be ready to walk away if it doesn't feel right, but she looks a nice sort and appears to be good value for money.
I would ask them directly the reason for her being out of work and match the answer to the one in the advert , make sure you see her being ridden first , and this is something that I also ask to be done is to see the horse turned on a very small circle on hard ground to see if they cross their hind legs in both directions, also to back the horse up in hand.

Good luck with your viewing

Can't see anywhere on the advert that says it's been out of work for a year......

It is definately not a showjumper - apalling action over a fence. But possibly the sort you could have some fun on.

It does say not a novice ride - and whilst I'm not questioning your ability - if you've never owned your own horse possibly this is not the sort of first horse I would recomment....
