Have finally found a litter of longhaired mini dachshund puppies which aren't all taken! Going to see them on Saturday, breeder seems lovely, they will be ready mid-December, and are KC registered with first vaccinations. Does anyone have any general advice on choosing a pup? Am doing my research like mad in the meantime...

Nothing more exciting than choosing a puppy! Check it all over for lumps, bumps etc nice clear eyes, should be friendly and inquisitive, you don't want one that is too withdrawn. I'm sure others can give you plenty of advice too.

I read somewhere you shouldn't choose the most withdrawn pup but also you shouldn't go for the boldest, most dominant one either, as they grow up more of a handful? Anyone verify that?

I picked the most withdrawn pup when I got my yorkie- well, actually, he chose me. He's very sensitve, but apart from that is a lovely dog!

Someone has to have them, and if you feel you can handle them, I say go for it!

i always check their jaw just to make sure their teeth are in line. so they dont have an undershod or overshod mouth.
good luck with your puppy when you get one.

I've never had a problem, I think a lot of it comes down to how you handle the dog and what in learns in your household as it grows. Rhu was by far the most boisterous one of his litter (he saw us off to the gate!) and he is quite obendient now and knows his place and is happy.

Would echo this...

Stella was the only pup at the breeder's (kept behind as a show prospect). When we first met, she climbed onto my knee and fell asleep; I knew then that she was a sweetie pie through and through
