Well apart from the Spotty One who will be at Boarding School in the UK:-))

Since finding out that I could not sell Vardi I have been knocking myself out organizing him to go to the UK, transport, insurance, vet, farrier etc etc etc. Organizing x-rays for him for Monday so I can send them over with him, organizing the Farrier to come and do any corrective trim that needs doing.

In the thick of this I have been on an abortive mission to view some cobs a 2 hour drive away, been manically scouring the ads spending hours on the internet, talking to people only to find out the ads are not quite as they seem, or the horses that seem ideal are miles away or already sold and I have realized it is all because I will miss the little booger and dread the empty stable.

After a long (and yes I will admit slightly drunken!) conversation with my DH over lunch, I have decided that actually I am desperate for the replacement horse for all the wrong reasons and am lining myself up to make a mahoosive mistake!

So I have made the very adult decision (mmmmm) that for the next few months at least with the money I am saving on livery, farrier, worming etc etc I will continue to have 3 lessons a week on Wit (which will enable me to still go to the yard on a regular basis and keep in touch with everyone) and maybe treat myself to some long weekend riding breaks in the Ardennes or Black Forest or some beach rides in Zeeland, when I go back to visit Vardi in the UK I can book a nice 2 hour hack through the beautiful downs.

I will stop haunting the for sale sites and instead ask some close friends, the farrier, the saddler, the EDT etc etc exactly what I am looking for and wait for something recommended by word of mouth to come up, if it is meant to be it is meant to be and maybe when the right horse comes up I will be in the right frame of mind to take it on with excitement and not to fill the hole that Big V leaves behind.

I am sure if I feel a desperate urge to muck out then one of my friends at the yard will be more than happy to accommodate me:-)))

I may even decide not to buy but to take on a loan horse for 3 days a week.

In other words I am going to give myself some space.

That sounds like a very sensible decision to me, and you can bet your bottom dollar that when you stop looking the right horse will come along. ;)

Your plans for long weekend breaks sound heavenly.

I hope that the right horse comes along soon for you, and that you have plenty of fun in the meantime!

I have thought of doing exactly the same and what I am doing whilst waiting for THE ONE I have been having lessons on some huge dressage horses(well they seem big 16.3h after riding a 14h horse for past 13 years).

Its just so I can sit on a horse really and I go once a week. I completely agree with the hours spent scouring the internet & the endless visits to see horses that are not as described in the main. I should just wait one will turn up.

Good idea to go on some horse holidays too. We do put pressure on ourselves too even I need reminding of that.
