hey!! i am going to view a horse on monday! Its a 7YO tb, 16'1 chestnut. It has hunted , xc, sj. It is farily good to hack can be a bit nappy but with ressurance its fine! Quite a hardy horse lives out all winter, Not very fizzy, wasnt ridden for quite a while and was viewed, she schooled and jumped it 3 foot good as gold.

Just wonderd if anyone had any advice for when i go to view it!!
thanksxx

Take someone with you and ask questions directly about problems such as head shaking as this wont show up now and other vices. I would write a list beforehand of questions you want to ask.

Remember. the vendor does not have to tell you anything unless you ask.

Check it has 4 legs!!!

(sorry I couldn't resist!!!)

Good luck and I hope it goes well.

Ps- I would also ask full details of what they describe 'nappy' as. Everyones description on this can vary.

dont rush into anything. if it doesnt feel right, dont arrange the vetting or transportation to bring him home! be curious and attentive*check him over yoorself to make sure he's as stated* and ask everything, vetinary records, any possible vices such as bad to load or clip etc and take it all in and then go home and consider.
part from that, enjoy

yeah i am not going to rush into anything what so ever. I am going to see then going to come home, and if i like it then go and see it again hack out, all that hehe thanksxx

I'd check a lot about the nappy thing, them saying "a bit of reasurence" might mean "you have to beat the S**t out of it to make it go out of the yard"!!

Sorry to be so negitive, cos i'm sure he/she will be lovely it's just my experience of nappy horses normally = naughty/problem horses!

hey
buckybee; i will dont worry, i have asked all the info i can over the fone so i can only see for my self!! your not negative at all, i am in the same frame of mind, ready for what it could be like hehe. thanksxxx

If this is your first horse I would really be wary about purchasing something with a napping problem

As buckybee said, whats a slight prob for one can be a HUGE prob for another, and if the horse is a napper then it does mean it has learnt that it CAN get the upper hand - just be wary

Cool, let us know how you get on!!

I've had naughty horses in the past, who I loved more than anything because they were good at their job, but now we are lucky enough to have well behaved ponios who are also good at their jobs, so it seems like hard work to have bratty ones, although I must admit, the naughty ones have so much more intelligence and character!! Good luck!

Best thing I was told was ask to see the horse trotted up striaght from stable, away from 'home' this will give you the bestest idea on the horses temperment. Video recording means you can play back and pick up things you might not of also show the 'wise woman' you know. Don't be afarid to request what the rider does with the horse eg Can I see you trot now, pop a jump, double etc. If you like remember you can always go lower then higher. Be careful of seller who wont ride the horse them selfs if its 'any ones ride' you should see her little girl, teenage boy and nan ride!! Or seems to avoid things.

umm, my horses are complete plods and won't really trot in hand (they have never been tought to) but will happilly walk off anywhere or gallop off anywhere when riding them.? Have my horses got bad temp then just cos they are a bit dosey??

Just try the horse in a lot of situations I would say, take it for a hack on its own and see what it does.

I think that shows thier temperment. A marish mare will be grumpy ears back etc, a gentel man won't kick up a fuss. A lad back pony will be half asleep....

Yeah, definately ask loads of questions. I write them all down and fill them out as I ask them so I can look over it afterwards. If you dont ask, they dont have to tell!!!

Yeah, sure have a vetting but IMO I dont get full 5 stage ones done very often! Too many horses seem to fail for stupid things nowadays. I do get my vet to check the horse over thoroughly though.
