I know it's abnormal @ycbm but what are the implications - just want to learn.

For me it would imply that the horse is likely not sound behind so has developed more/underdeveloped on one side of sacrum. SI issues can be a nightmare and often go hand in hand with other hind end problems, so it would be enough for me to think there’s something going on.

It says that one of the tuber sacrale either has scar tissue making it look higher than the other or that the underlying bone actually is higher. Either way, it's indicative of a current or previous problem somewhere around the pelvis (though often caused from something lower down). With Birker's experience with her last horse she should run a mile, whether this horse would pass a vet, like the last one did, or not.

It’s hard without a proper side on picture because it makes him look shorter in the back than he probably is, but saddle fit is going to be tricky and he may not take the length of saddle you want/ need as it will have to sit well behind that scapula and he has a very prominent wither (plus not much muscle under it)
I don’t think you can accurately judge the symmetry of the pelvis when the horse's head isn’t straight, but I agree it could be an area of concern

I know that Birker has already made her exit, but even though some of the things said in this thread might be hard to take, I don't think it's because people want to be unkind. Quite the opposite, really, in that they want to make sure that Birker finds a horse that is all around suitable.

It's hard critism to take, but listen to it now, and don't wish you had later.

I know that I'd be too tall or heavy for some finer smaller horses/larger ponies, and that's a fact. So I wouldn't consider any in that category no matter how otherwise suitable or how pretty they were.

If someone needs a more sizable horse, whether that's in bone, height, or width, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with that person. We're all different sizes, and horses come in many different sizes, it's important to find one that's the right fit.

This particular horse looks a bit too "small" and just doesn't look strong in his body.

There's definitely a suitable mount out there somewhere, and I know that horse shopping can be the pits. Best to wait for the right one vs spring on the wrong one, and all that.

"Saddle real-estate" is a good point to bring up. While my current horse is of decent size, my OH cannot ride him because he cannot accommodate the size of saddle OH needs (he is tall and long legged). So when/if we were looking for a horse for him, it'd be something to be on the lookout for.

Even for myself. I had one that putting a 17" on was borderline too long. I am always attracted to short backs and need to make sure I don't go too short!

I curse my horse daily that my backside has to fit in his 16.5” saddle, but it is good for my willpower when it comes to puddings 😂

Damn it, I didn't think I looked that bad really 😉

I'm not proceeding with the horse. Too many red flags. Apart from the s.i issues, the bit of nappiness and laziness. The favouring the field to the surface. The suggestion that the horse was possibly unsuitable for x.c or fun rides. The fact is was so reduced in price. The horse has actually been incredibly successful in its showing career so it's conformation is actually very good, the photos I used to disguise the horse hasn't helped. He was a lovely boy and I hope he finds a good home.

But after all has been said, I have gained so much from yesterday's viewing in terms of my confidence and I needed this so, so much.

Onwards and upwards. Will still keep looking, but will continue to work on my weight loss and savings too.

I agree as someone who is, shall we say, chunkier. It doesn't have to be a tall horse either.I have a 15hh heavy weight cob, a mare but with a long enough back to take comfortably the length of saddle that I need. Some taller horses may not be as suitable.

I'm sure she won't think you're a timewaster, you've made you decision and not messed her about

I missed the bit about preferring the field to a surface
One of mine was like that; he passed a 5 stage vetting and was never unlevel but hated one particular surface and wasn't keen on any sort of deep going right from the start
He was diagnosed with coffin joint arthritis within a couple of years of my buying him

Good luck with the search!

His back was long enough guys. It was the angle of the photo that I took from a video to preserve his anonymity.

I'm really keen that I don't compromise the sale because it wouldn't be fair. He was ridden in a lovely 18" saddle.

Where did you get that photo of me?

Seriously i think you have made the right decision, sometimes walking away, reading and digesting the factual comments about the horse in this thread, and the history with Lari, this is the most sensible decision. The right one will be out there.

I saw the initial advert and the horse is chunkier and more built than it looks, those two pictures on here do not do him justice. Anyway never fret B the right one is out there for you. You have done fantastic getting to where you are.
Thank you. Just come back from SW and another 1 1/2lbs off. 😄

You've done great with your weight loss, we'll done x

I was busy musing to myself how this thread makes me so glad to be short (even if I was a bit overweight I’d still be able to easily ride) then you’ve just reminded me that the reason I am paranoid about putting on even a pound or two…is because my NF mare is 12.3hh!
