...has brown (stained?) circles around(not on or in,) his eyes, appearing very racoonish? He's 12 but going strong. Nothing seems to be wrong with his eyes per say, just the sudden discoloration of the white/golden fur surrounding both. If it doesn't bother him, I'm ok with it but wanted to ask if this is just a normal "aging" thing or something else? I've always had black Labs so this is new for me...

cheers...rr

Yes it could be both tear ducts. I've known several dogs have to have them flushed. It may not be in your dog's case but I'd never mess around with eyes.

Just washed all around them with luke warm water and he seemed to enjoy it, lying there in front of the kitchen wood stove. I did notice tiny bits of red and got to thinking that, what he had his head into, was probably the first of many(if anything like last year,) rotting carcasses left from poachers. He did bring back and pretty chewed up hind leg of a small deer two nights ago. He still gives a bark to be let in(and I throw a last log in the stove,) and then I find the "remains" the next morning when putting him out...

There is no swelling though and no uncomfort what so ever. He loved the attention...Will keep an eye on it. Thanks...rr
