HI, my daughter's 19 year old pony is still more than capable at his job, sound as a pound and fit as a fiddle, however he is lacking oomph ..., dressage comments are behind leg and lacls impulsion, needs to be more forward.
Ant ideas how I can pep hom up or do I resign to the fact he doesn't want top play anymore.#He is fed alfa a, high fibre nuts and has 365 supplement and redcell.
Ant ideas greatfully received.

I would firstly have him checked out back wise as my horse injured his back a few years ago and went all lethargic on me. After treatment he was back to his usual self. He is 20 this year and still going strong and (when i get the chance) I will be competing this summer as normal. We have fed him and my sister's younger horse (who can be rather, erm laid back) on Allen and Page's Power and Performance nuts. You need to soak them. but they do seem to help on the energy and overall condition side

Is this a change to how he normally is? I'd get him checked for the normal but he may be telling you it's time for him to have a quiter life and just enjoy him for being him xx

It the lethargy is something new then get a blood test and check for anaemia. Red Cell is okay but if he is severely anaemic he will need something more...........possibly some jabs.

Also, old fashioned maybe, but my oldies also get straight oats added to their feed - I find they get to a certain age and need that extra oomph. The mind is still willing but the body weakens!

Thanks, will get back and bloods done and maybe buy some oats. thanks gunnerdog for being +ve as i do not really feel he is ready to retire, he still loves to go x/c its mainly the dressage and sj he switches off,
