Have you got a golden oldie

Ours definately is, not only is she a blonde bombshell she is pushing 37 Welsh B. Last year she had really bad laminitis for the first time in her life. We thought we were going to loose her, but she is a tough old girl and with careful management we got her through. She also suffers from arthritic knees as a result of an old injury but she doesn't let that get her down even though she can't really bend them to have her feet picked out. At the moment she seems to be feeling so well. She is only turned out for the morning on the grass - so she doesn't get too much and to avoid the others bullying her. The others all trundle off to their fresh strip of grass but dusty gallops off down the field tail in the air to try and winde them up into a game. When we bring her in from the field she is on her toes and silly like a 3yo. It is so lovely to see her really enjoying life. She is so cheeky and happy is is a pleasure to see especially on such a cold and windy day as today.

I used to do PC Open Hunter Trials on a 32 year old! He was awesome !Sadly his owner retired him (for no reason) the next year and he died within 6 months

Huge hugs to you zigzag. You must be devastated to lose your 2 friends.
Be thankful you had them for the time you did and try to remember the good times.
RIP Sunbeam and Cadog

We have kept three to ripe old ages, Molly (ShirexClydesdale was reckoned to be about 40!) Poppy (WelxhxTB) was 'only' 28. and Nelly was 33 when she was pts at the end of October, we had had her for 23 years. We now have two relative youngsters of 11 and a black and white cob of 27.

I lost a youngster of 25 last year! She had never been ill apart from conjunctivitis. Had her since a foal. I have another of 29 and one of 31 who I was told would never reach old age due to bad redworm damage as a baby. My youngsters are 14!

Both my oldies are retired, one through arthritic problems and the other cos I cant catch him!!! And he is totally manic to ride! (He is actually a bit wobbly now too...like an old man I suppose)

Zigzag. I read your posts and can only offer sympathy. I know I will be in the same position within a few years. Both of mine have been with me since 2 year olds. I always pray that I wont have to make the decision that you had to make.
