Purely out of curiosity what's the oldest horse you have seen/heard of? And if you have a golden oldie yourself I'm sure we would love to see a photo!

What has spurred this on is me finding a photo of the horse I first rode when I was 4.. A shetland called Ralph who was 37, the riding school used to let your parents walk the littlies up the lane on him and back. He knew his job so well that they didnt even really need a leadrope, but me being me I used to feel so sorry for him pottering along that when we got to the top of the lane (not a road) I used to get off and walk alongside him back haha
 
My first pony welsh section a was 32 when I had him!

Again seasoned superstar and just kept doing and teaching! I sadly outgrew him within a year :(
 
Not as old as some, but this is my 21 yo (22 in April 14)

He is still very active and loves his dressage.

I have three oldies (as you might have guessed from my username). One is 24, one is 25 and last but not least a lovely cuddly cob who is 35.

My first pony got to the age of 27 - but I have my suspicions that he was a good bit older than that as his teeth had started to drop out - so that he could still eat carrots I wrecked my mum's food processor by constantly grating carrot in it
 
My old girl was my best friend, I had her from when I was 11 for almost 12 years until she was 35. She was the pony I never dreampt I'd have, and she was a fantastic first pony. She'd politely put up with your mistakes but let you know you'd made them, and she was spirited but still super safe. She'd still take off with me out hacking at the age of 35.

On my phone atm so can't post any pics, but she was the best pony ever (in my biased opinion :p)
 
The oldest i've met is a black shetland aged 44 (according to the owner) he looked in is 20's. The owner claimed to have a passport for him proving his age and he had owned him for 30 years. I wish mine lived to and looked as good at that age. No pics unfortunately.

My oldest is 22 and I stopped riding him as in his head he's still a bold 4yo, and i'm terrified of him getting injured with his silly carry on. Plus i'm not as brave as I used to be when I got him 19 years ago!

he lives out 24/7 with four other horses all aged under 6.....by far he is the most energetic out of all of them in the field!
 
My auntie has got a family Shetland that is past 40, some family members think he is 42 others 46.
My old mare is 30 this year and is still going up the gallops 2-3 times a week, jumping and hunting, fit as a fiddle (regularly takes off with her owner and is a total nightmare to hack over fields as she wants to gallop off!) she very healhly apart from she has now got a lump on her 3rd eye lid :( not causing any issues yet, but vet is unwilling to operate due to her age, which I feel is the right thing to do as if they done she will lose her eye and it's not bothering her at all.
 
I used to loan a lovely black pony called Sparky who was well into his 30s, although no-one knew exactly how old. He was fab! Certainly didn't act his age! I lost track of him though after he went back to his owners when I was 11. Unfortunately his owners seemed to lose track of him too (they sent him on loan again, off the yard this time, which I thought was very unfair given his age!), so I was never able to find out what happened to him. I hope he was spoiled rotten into his retirement!
And I'm currently volunteering at an RDA centre where at least two of the ponies are well into their 30s (well, one is actually a warmblood, so not exactly pony-sized) and they have just lost one to colic who was a similar age. I have met a few horses and ponies who were in their 40s, but that was at a special rest home.
 
i don't knoow exactly how old my pony bracken is but the vet estimates late 30's early 40's :)

Knobberpony is 23 according to her passport,and has taught my two girls everything they know.She lives out,is ridden 6 days a week and took my 8 year old around a cross country course yesterday like a bat out of hell.She hunts,jumps,does dressage,is a fab hack,bombproof in traffic and loves games.She'll even put up with fancy dress,and a non rider like me hacking her.We owe her an awful lot and she has a home for life with us.
 
where i keep my horses is also a riding school. there was a little blue roan pony called Toby who was 47. some of the children who learnt to ride on him also had parents that learnt to ride on him when they were young! bless him he sadly passed away late last year. but he was such a sweetheart.

i think now the eldest pony there is now 39 and is still being used once a week for half hour lead rein lessons for youngsters. he loves his job and is well loved in return.
 
My old trout is 33 and after 2 years retired I finished work early today, both ridden had physio so no riding and trout been in all day so I rode her, just as keen as ever :)
