I have one, Best Friend I ever had

They gain weight really easily. in the early stages chew a lot. Very loyal a bit scatty at times.

any particulars you would like to know.

p.s. i have a girl

Girls are a little less playful!

They do love to have company and get bored easily if you leave them alone. Mine has lots of toys and will play for hours you have to be careful as they dont stop so as with mine getting old now she can over do it.

Golden Retrievers are very attached to their owners

They shed a lot of hair, they also love to climb into any stinky water they can find, so think twice if you are a house proud person. As a breed they suffer with a lot of hereditary health problems, you need to make sure the parents of this puppy have been hip scored, and had their eyes checked apparently they also have elbow joint problems. Because of these health problems, they are a breed you really need insurance for.

Sorry to put a downer on this, but it is a breed with a lot of health issues.

I doi work. I am field baised so the days and nights i am away my husband takes her to his parents and she spends the day with their staffordshire Bull terrier - She loves it. She does get left and if they have company should be fine you go back at lunch so dont see a problem

Mine is not insured had her 6 years and only paid jabs for her. Agree they can have breeding issues and they do shed hair all year around!! Agree they love to play in water etc but so do all the gun dog breeds had spaniels too

I had a goldie who sadly went to Rainbow Bridge 2004. I was lucky and had no real health problems until she was 14 when she had a mammary tumour which had spread.
Lots of fun. Loved muddy water, shed lots of hair but oh how I loved her.

We've got one

She's just turned 13 and is brilliant. Luckily she was bred very well and her only health problems are caused by her (she has arthritus from falling off a cliff and is blind in one eye from an infection). She's a greedy goblet though!!

This was taken last summer

i have a 14 year old golden and he's been the best friend i've ever had. he's now got arthritis and kidneys are failing but he's been very healthy through his life so i don't mind paying out for his 'old man' jabs now! mine has always had a very delicate tummy and is sick a lot if he eats something thats too rich- this has made him very cheap as he doesn't (and never has) eat very much- he's really fussy!
he loves swimming and will leg off at the sight of water and refuse to come out but he was really easy to train (i got him when i was 12 and did all the training myself) but the downside is that all of my house/ clothes are covered in long white hairs!
he's very loyal and affectionate and great with children, i can't recommend them enough!

i have a 4 yr old and she is like a human and thinks she is a human. they are amazing and great with kids. she has never snaped at any one... they eat anything they can get there paws on (well mine does (lillie)) and they do tend to put on weight easliy... you are going for the right breed if you do get one x

We have a two year old Goldie, Lottie - my daughter (it's actually her dog) calls her "Golden Girl" - she's FANTASTIC! Love her to bits! We have five dogs in total but this is the only dog we intend breeding from (we already have lots of local people who'd love one of her puppies) as she has the most fantastic temperament (our Springers are great but she out-shines them, I must admit!). She is loyal, loving, obedient, well behaved ......can't say enough postive things about her! She loves swimming but hates being hosed! At Badminton this year, she was lying on the grass and a little toddler came up to her and laid down beside her and cuddled up to her and she just carried on lying there with her huge paws wrapped around him amidst lots of "Ooohhs" and "Aaahhs" from passers by! She's a star! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the breed to anyone! On a walk, the Springer girls and "snipped" Munsterlander boy never seem to get worn out, but Lottie is a "twice around the garden and I'm knackered" type! No problems with her at all!

I got my first one 4 years ago and now would replace any dog with another.
Mine is a platinum colour, very pale and not very thick coated. he's tall and athletic looking, and can outrace the car round the fields at 28 mph. His worst vice is a love of water, if it's around and you don't actually tell him no, he leaps in however deep, muddy etc. he also sheds fine long hair but stands happily whilst you vac him all over.
I would say they are like labradors but much more open in character, and very humerous. Ours has a whole repertoire of attention getting tricks, and is as playful as when a puppy. he was never a chewer compared to my labs, and is perfectly trainable if he knows you mean it, otherwise he pretends he can't hear your commands.
He's jolly useful when the phone rings too, he howls until you answer it...
I would go and look at the parents, my dog is not thick set but very handsome, people are always stopping me to say so. His bloodline isn't a particularly showing one but I would try and replicate it for my next dog he is so nice a chap.

I have a GR and I would'nt swap him for the world. He is very well behaved (people always comment on how good he is).

I can take him anywhere and hes a good boy. He was easy to train, has a fantastic temprement, is a big softy, intelligent, loves to be part of everything thats going on, nosey very playful and just a delight to have around.

They are renowned for being good with children and other animals.

Don't get one if you are house proud as they shed ALOT of fur everyday of the year, they love the mud and water. (My dog goes out his way to lie like a hippo in the mud and water) and they can smell even with regular bathing!! They need alot of walkies and stimulated with toys etc.

i would say same as rest really , really good dogs but do bang on the weight and malt and love water but apart from that there fab, love dillon to bits and he loves going on walks, but would also be happy to sleep all day too.
And is fine when i need to leave him for a long period of time on his own he just sleeps as long as he has been on a walk first.
Fab dogs he is in my siggy , i clip him in the summer easier when he is never out of the water and hot .
