So, little horse is having her shoes off in the next 6 weeks or so.

Diet has been changed to cut out sugar/starch as much as possible. Pro Hoof ordered.

She is going into the vets on Fri to have her fronts xrayed as she has collapsed heels and caudal heel pain so I wanted to get good x rays to show whoever is going to help me with her feet. Luckily still covered on insurance so can do this.

My farrier is pretty good and totally agrees with me about taking shoes off and trying a new approach. Am wondering whether to use him or whether someone can recommend someone else who might be better in this scenario.

I think it depends on whether your farrier has much experience of rehabbing to barefoot?

This lady has done Frank's footcare since we took his shoes off last march. (pony in Somerset but I know she does travel to Dorset).

He had collapsed heels, reverse rotated pedal bones and possible coffin joint DJD. Taking his shoes off has been very successful. We have lots of pics and slow mo vids (done by the trimmer) along the way which were quite enlightening.

If your farrier's supportive, well done, you have a gem. If you want to swop try Caroline Andresen, she's in Cheddar but travels across the South West.
