My boy has several beds to chose from at home but recently seems to prefer lying on the floor with his back agains a wall or solid surface. I'm assuming this is because he's finding it more difficult to get up from that position and therefore having his back agains something solid gives him something to push off of.

He has a memory foam bed from Pets at Home for when he's at my parents (the look after him while I'm at work) but again he seems to prefer lying in the hall against the wall.

Any suggestions of what bed types might be beneficial to him - I'm wondering one of those solid, plastic dog beds might be a good option for him as if we get a large one, he's still got room to stretch out but will alway have something solid to lie against?

Memory foam is good, but my oldie house dogs tend to slide down the wall to lie on the carpeted floor/dog bed or whatever, resulting in a c26/28" oil slick around the room! Getting up seems to be less of a problem than the confidence to let go and flop down.

Hmmm Cinnamontoast - I don't think he'd use one of those - are they not a bit high for them to jump up and down from? I think my old boy might be scared of that!

6 inches off the floor, I guess? It's a small step up, not a stretch:
