Well guys what a mixed weekend!

I have been managing to mount pony without being bucked off recently which is a MASSIVE step forward.

The process I have taken is to lunge, saddle on for 20 mins with gradual girth tightening, walk round, helper either side to hold him whilst I get on and mount. Yesterday he didn't batter an eye lid which was a first for a while.

Anyway, the three of us went out hacking yesterday afternoon. We reached the end of the road when one of the horses in front spooked at something in the bushes. My friend kicked him on but he wasn't having any of it so we all started to back down the road. My friend's horse then spun round and bolted down the road followed by my other friend and me. It was MENTAL! The only weird thing was is that I don't think pony quite knew what was going on, he definitley didnt spook but more follow the crowd! When I managed to stop him he looked round at me as if to say to say "Mum, its all very well having a canter, but doing it on a main road is dangerous - what were you thinking!?"

Luckily no cars were about. We all got back safely.

:D:D

glad he is getting on better with mounting. i have had trouble with that with my 17.1 ex racer. he is now after about 3months of practice alot better and now 90% of time will stand at block :)
That hack could have turned nasty glad you were all ok. and glad your pony just seems confused as to why it was done!! I would try and go out with something that hacks perfectly on your outside just incase he now thinks that is what he does at that point.

I have been following your story with your pony and hope that this doesn't put you back where you started, don't let it knock your confidance, try to see the funny side! Everyone in one piece, try to forget it and move on.

I don't feel my confidence was knocked too much. I was very shakey so i decided to head back to the yard. We had to walk down a road to get back which he did quietly so i think by the time we got back he was chilled.

The others carried on with their hack but i didn't want to push my luck!
