Hi everyone,

(i thought i posted this before but it didnt seem to upload?)

Basically, I am looking for advise on good boots and jods after a 10 year hiatus :D Im returing to riding as an adult and I wanted some boots and Im thinking I most likely want jodhpur boots, most likely ariat? If anyone has any good suggestions please let me know? Money isnt an issue, within reason, Ill only be riding once a week for an hour and the occasional hack the majority of the time, but in the holidays from uni I hope to ride more frequently.

Im looking for some good, but affordable jodhpurs, Ive been looking at gorringe, dublins and caldenes. I'm 5ft5 and have a small frame if that means anything. Ive been reading around and seeing people seem to prefer breeches, whats the
advantage of them? and would i have to wear long boots with them?

Any, and all reccomendations appreciated!

thanks in advance

I have an obsession with denim breeches/jodphurs - Ariat are good but more expensive and Greys and Bays a good make. Decathlon are also good and have range of jodphurs from about £9.99.
If you are choosing short boots you probably want half chaps as well, my legs get very bruised if I don't wear chaps. If you buy Ariat boots I wouldn't buy the Ariat chaps (or gaiters) to go with them as they are (lovely but) very expensive. Have a look at Just Chaps.

I love my equitector zipped short boots as they have a steel toe cap for protection :) I have ariat chaps which match the boots well.

My follyfoot riding tights are nice to ride in, though possibly cotton is nicer in warm weather. I like caldene personally and they are well priced.

I have brilliant Decathlon warm winter breeches that I adore and never took off..

Have a look on eBay for boots, I'm always seeing barely worn Ariats there for super cheap, I got a pair for £30 which had only been worn twice. I also got some brand new Treadsptep chaps for super cheap so its definitely worth taking a look. If you go for short boots I would definitely wear them with chaps, just for comfort.

I'm 5'4 and also a slim build and have found that often breeches don't fit me properly, I've really struggled to find ones I liked. I started trying on kid's size ones and found that size 170 was a better fit for me and the equivalent of a size 6/8. Kids ones generally go up to size 178. Good news because they are cheaper so you can get the posh brands for way less. I got a lovely pair of Pikeur's for under £100, but even if you don't want to spend that much the mid-range brands will also be cheaper if you get the kid's range.
