Good but Patient Farrier in Bucks Needed!

Anyone know one? - my mare is 8 years old and very hammer shy - I managed to get fronts on her with a lot of pulling away of the foot but no way was she going to put up with rears on.

Not desperate at the moment because she is due to drop a foal but come Christmas I really need to get this done. I might be able let her go barefoot for a while and perhaps a bit longer with no shoes on behind but will eventually need to get this cracked.

I need to spend several hours trying to train her but she is a big strong mare and knows it!

Advice on training or farrier would be very much appreciated!
 
Where abouts in Bucks are you - we have a tremendous farrier - he was trained by one of our old farriers and is really good with all the horses I have seen him with - even our vet from the RVC complemented our mare's shoeing. Let me know where you are and I will see if he will travel to you -
 
I may be able to help if you tell me where you are- I know two very patient good farriers who do different sides of Bucks....I also know another who despite being a brilliant farrier in terms of how he shoes etc. and truly excellent at remedial shoeing.....patience wise he's not great.
 
Frazer McDonald is fantastic! Very calm, sensitive and any problems, he will explain them to you and do all he can to help. Couldnt recommend him enough. He is on the registered farriers website but if you are interested pm me and I can give you his details.

He lives in Aylesbury but travels all over. I am in Denham and he has been coming to me (for 6 years) since he was in the Household Cavalry Regiment and based in Knightsbridge.

Might be worth getting one of Kelly Marks's Recommended Associates out or someone like that to help you with some foot handling beforehand? Alternatively could you bribe her with treats? We had to do that with one of ours for a while and now he's absolutely fine to be done.
 
I have gone from having a horse that was going to be properly knocked out at the vets to be shod to one that is manageable without sedation and it is all thanks to Mark Smith (www.msjump.co.uk) and Mark Rudge (Farrier based in Aylesbury but been doing mine at Chesham).

I cannot praise these two highly enough :o)

Sam Terry got me out of a hole, he was very patience and gentle but firm, with a very stiff old boy and even didnt mind that pony was incontinent! sadly only used him the once before pony was pts, but wouldnt hestitate to use him again if I ever venture back into ownership.

does horse actually need shoes. my friend has a 17.1 irish draughtXtb which does the exact same thing and she doesnt have shoes on and it is also now much happier about having legs groomed and feet picked out.
