Big "Orse" arrived at my farm by chance 5yrs ago, an old friend was given a horse but had no know how or anywhere to keep him. So in my wisdom.... I offered her livery for free in return for some help on the Farm. Well he was a sweetheart a huge 17.2 ID dun with stripey legs and kind as, my mare was smitten! It became apparent that he had just been hooned around by large people due to his size, if you got his tack out he started to shake... bless. luckily for him said friend lost interest pretty sharpish when winter rocked up and was never to be seen again!

but big Orse stayed and lived with his friends eating me out of house and home every winter but was never lame or sorry and yesterday they big fella left as quietly as he arrived I found him lying in the field with his beloved mare at his side, he still had grass in his mouth.

Good Bye Big Orse you were very loved XXXXXXXXX

Good night God Bless Big 'Orse. What a lovely way for him to leave, in the place he found peace and surrounded by his friends. Hugs to you. J x

Just have to say, that is such a sad little story.
We all wish our horses could go like that, their choice and with their friends standing by.
I hope your mare will get over her sad loss.

Thank you for all your kind replies, It was absolutely the best way for him to go just miss him. The mare is ok bit quiet and away from the others a bit, as she and Big Orse were they were the golden oldies enjoying each others company in their twilight years away from the ... younger prank playing lads.....

So sorry to read this, I have just posted because I lost my dear Dazzle yesterday. It's so sad to read of all these lovely horses passing on - may they all run free together.

oh i am so sorry but they left us on a lovely sunny day, and they were loved and cared for so many aren't. Still hurts like hell though XX

A gentleman to the very end. I'm sorry for your loss, but if they have to go then that really is the very best way for everyone, if only we could all be so lucky.

Sleep tight Big 'Orse x

So sorry about your loss but that's by far the best way to go.

It does make me cross that people treat these big horses in that rough way. My mare is very wary about being tacked up and I think it's for a very similar cause.

What a good job Big Orse found you and your mare to spend his last few years with.
