Good combo turn out for chunky neck

Recommendations please? Needs to be quite tough so 1000d minimum probably medium weight would do. Pony is 5'6 and normal neck weatherbeetas fit perfectly body wise. I've not tried a combo as they are so expensive to return and often combo necks are too tight round his chunky little neck!

Interesting thanks- I wonder if that means the combo will fit! I presume you use the neck cover that was included? (as in not a size up)
Id prefer it all in one as my other horse has the detach-a-necks and he regularly does so in the field

I have the same problem with my 5'6 pony, especially with weatherbeeta rugs the rug itself fit perfect but the necks always too small, I have so many unused neck covers at home!! I now buy all my combo rugs in 5'9 and they fit perfect so try going for the next size up.

Premier Equine are very good for neck space but ive not got the available cash right now for one of those!

Axiom rugs. Brilliant rugs esp for the money. Very well made, high denier and various weights. They're are an excellent fit on chunkies, inc round the neck. Think you can only buy them on ebay tho. Seller is excellent and it's pretty much next day delivery. I don't bother buying anything else now.

I size up with mine but find Mark Todd and shires to be good he's also a 5'6 but he's got a big front and is so wide everything I buy is a 5'9 now.

Ive seen Axiom rugs on Ebay and often wondered but am not too adventurous and tend to stick with what I know!
Yes I agree Mark Todd. He does have one, Its a size up but that's just because it was cheap second hand
Do Axiom rugs come up big or small? If he's 5'6 Weatherbeeta would I get 5'6 Axiom?

They're pretty much bang on for size. And because they're deep and generous round the neck you don't need to go a size up.

May sound silly to do however, on the detach a ne k amigo rugs you can buy a neck for amigo XL rugs. They fit well on the normal amigo rugs as well as the amigo xl rugs and are made for bigger horses ( hence xl) or bigger necks this case

Another axiom vote. Prefer them to my premier equine rugs (which are also good for big necks)

Shires rugs are good for thick necks (and bodies). I have a heavyweight cob with a thick neck and find many other brands of combos won't even meet round his neck, let alone do up!
