I wanted to buy a pair of black gloves for competing. I wanted some that were good in all weathers, ie that still had good grip even when they're wet.
I saw in H&H this week some MacWet gloves, but £30 for a pair of gloves is a bit much!
I wanted some that aren't too thick.
Can anyone recommend a good pair?

I bought the Mac Wets at Olympia, they are brilliant. Expensive but have such problems with my blooming fingers in cold and wt, they are worth it. Apparently, jockeys swear by them

I'm another one for Roeckl gloves. Lots of different types to choose from and I found them to be much more hard wearing than some Macwets I had.
The Macwets started to get holes in the fingertips (and no I don't have long nails!!), Roeckl have never done this and they are as close fitting and "feely".

not a fan of macwets, dont last that long
ive had various types of rodney powell gloves and they are lovely, there are grippy XC ones, or synthetic leather Dr ones, and both are nice, and reasonably priced

I have used both Macwets and Roeckls. The Rocekls are OK, but the Macwets are superior when it comes to hanging onto reins that are slippery with either rain or sweat. They may not last that long (I don't know as I only wear mine for competitions), but I prefer them to the Roeckls and they dry much better as well.

SSG's. I like them for schooling & general hacking as they aren't too thick & offer good grip. Friend uses them for hunting & competing & she loves them.

Think they're about £16/£18 a pair depending on what type so reasonable price too.

Sealskinz every time for me!

They ARE waterproof and ARE warm!

I've got a pair for mountain biking in too & would'nt ride horse or bike in the rain without them!

They too are £30 though I'm afraid but the quality out does your £15 'ers

Roeckl, although they only last a year to 18 months when being used 5 times a week say. But then they are so good, no problems in wet. The only time they get slippy is when I use canter silk on his mane - which is my own fault
