Plenty of excellent dealers here, and plenty of dodgy ones too, the same in the UK. Best advice I can give is go and view and go with your gut instinct. Also get the horse vetted by a reputable equine vet.

I read online today somewhere that if you are in the UK (assuming you are) its now going to become much more difficult to ship horses over, just worth noting the extra red tape you may have if thats what you are planning x

Ireland to UK is ok, it's going the other way that's a problem.

It's possible (probable) that the cost both ways is going to increase to make the UK to Ireland leg viable.

There was an article in the Irish Field that explains it all- there is extra paperwork and vet checks going both ways and horses entering UK from Ireland have to go to a border customs point, they cant just go direct to destination from UK port.

What about import duty?

from jan 1st - all my online purchases from uk to ireland have import tax added automatically. So surely thats true ireland to uk too?
So with leisure horses, customs will be different and i expect proof of purchase price necessary...unless it doesnt apply to animals?
This stuff is going to take a while to get used to...what a shambals.

Whilst I can't comment on what ridden stock he sells, I recently bought a rising 3yo from Daniel Lyons (Quality Irish Cobs) in Ireland, she came exactly as described, in great health and condition, and he made the whole process very easy (although sounds like I may have gotten lucky to get her when I did, what with Brexit and all). Not sure if he has the type you're looking for, but worth checking him out.
