I suppose we only hear about the bad ones, when people have problems and are sold something unsuitable.

We used some dealers for many years, sadly they have retired now. But they used to take their horses out and about, hunting, hacking on the roads, show jumping, eventing, even point to points. Everything was for sale, and they probably didn't get lots of feed and were ridden by good riders.

Why aren't there good dealers like this any more? They seem to get a load of animals, ride in the menage, take it up and down the farm track and try and sell it!

There are some great dealers out there , Sol (coloured in siggie) came from a dealer who was absoloutely fabulous .
So did one of my previous horses

I think people have a pre-concived idea that dealers are going to be dirt cheap .... when you do get what you pay for

We bought my horse from a wonderful dealer, who has a working farm but brought on (sort of as a passionate hobby) to sell all the young irish hunters they brought over as 3yo. They never had to advertise - they had the same clients (mainly ones who wanted a hunter) coming back for years, and everyone heard of them through word of mouth because they never advertised. My sisters OH and his family have been buying horses off them for years, and they took me along to see them, where I found Chloe. (in my avatar)
They relied too much on reputation to muck around, but also they were totally honest and didn't need to lie because they have always been very sucessful as dealers. Because it wasn't their whole income, they took the time to produce each horse to it's best and hunted every single one.
I would always go straight back to them to have a look at horses - they always have such a decent little bunch.

They even let me have her on a 2 month trial, with her tack etc...which was very kind of them.

Cat came from a dealer & as it turned out I was extremely lucky as he was a very good horse that I got from a very dodgy dealer.

Adrian came from a different dealer & I couldn't be more pleased with him. He does exactly what it says on the tin & then some. The dealer really wanted to make sure that I ended up with the right horse. Would def go back to him.

Vere Phillipps. if you can afford his prices (and his horses really really are worth the money), go there. i bought 2 from him years ago, they were exactly what he said they'd be, even down to the quirks. can't rate him highly enough, will go back next time i've got enough money!

My new ponio came from a dealer - there was no hard sell, he is exactly as described, and I would go back to this dealer if I was shopping again!
There are some good ones out there, and in the same way that the baddies should be named and shamed, the good ones should be publically praised for being honest!

Solo came from a dealer- my uncle. He's brilliant, and Solo is exactly as he described- a womans horse, scatty and pretty!
