Bit of background. 8 year old chocolate lab, shes very small for a chocolate lab and slim build not your usual type.
Currently fed on james wellbeloved dry mix which is brilliant no problems, but looking for something that is a little cheaper as its £50 for a big bag ( we always bulk buy)

Any recommendations? As shes high risk of weight gain

I dont think you can go wrong with Skinners Duck and Rice @ £24 a 15kg bag, I feed Auatarky Salmon & Rice @ £19 a 15kg as I dont think there is much difference. My Dobes look fabulous with shiny coats, bright eyes and wet noses, as a 15kg bag lasts just over 10days I was looking for something cheaper but was not going to feed rubbish and I think the Autarky is a good comprimise.

have a look around online when you're ordering. i used to order from vet uk for the duck and rice but last time i ordered amazon was cheaper and has free postage. my dog and my parents do well on skinners and were also on arden grange lamb and rice which we were happy with. vet uk often do two bag offers of that for about 58.

I feed my two on Autarky and bulk buy it from Costco, so get it for around £12 a bag. I know maize is the main ingredient, but having two big hungry dogs, I have to consider finances much as I would like to buy a better quality feed.

Most of it seems to come out of the other end, though :/

Autarky Salmon & Rice is better, it has no maize or grains apart from oats and the main ingredient is Salmon, its obviously more expensive but is better quality.

I would feed fish4dogs but unless I win the lottery it isnt going to happen.

Harringtons, it has no wheat and our lab who gets a horrible coat on the wrong food looks great on it. Its about £25 a bag. The man who recommended it to me said it was a cheap version of James Wellbeloved, I don't know if that is true.

We use something called Dr. Johns Working - high in protein for working dogs and no VAT about £ 9?bag

Link about Dr John's. EEC additives may (or may not, good idea to email them to ask) include BHT and/or BHT (carcinogens). Unless the derivatives are offal, as in some expensive brands, it often means floor sweepings (not my phrasing!)

Cheap foods are cheap for a reason. They contain cheap (and sometimes nasty) ingredients. It's possibly a false economy to feed cheap food because you need to feed more of the cheap stuff, less of the more expensive stuff.

^^^ this, we changed our spaniel from Burns to fish4dogs this week, she only needs half a mug twice a day on the fish4dogs, whereas it was a whole mug twice a day on the Burns. I got 12kg on amazon for £37 but if you subscribe to a delivery every month/2/3months it goes down to £34. Burns works out at £2.40/kg and fish4dogs is a few pence over £3/kg, and for 60p you get a much better quality food.

I buy wainwrights turkey and rice, just dry for breakfast and he gets it mixed with the meat trays for dinner. Recently though he seems off his breakfast like he just can't be bothered to eat it. Either he's not hungry or maybe I should try a new flavour? Think buying just meat trays would be cheaper than buying any of the more expensive brands, and he could just have two of those a day instead!
