Come September/ October I will be looking for a 3 year old event type to produce, with the aim of intermediate.
But I want unbroken. I break, produce & sell atm but with my new job I'm going to have the spare cash to really crack on with my eventing which I'm over the moon about :D

I'm planning on going to goresbridge & going to speak to my instructor about an Ireland trip with him to breeders he knows, but I would like a few options in this country as well but all I can find is showjumping types or already imported & broken which I don't want.

If anyone has any knowledge that would be wonderful !!

Groomsbridge stud did have a couple of yuongsters for sale, their horses are lovely and nicely handled.

Harrington Horses in Kent often have nice unbroken types for sale. They seem to have a good reputation.

Harrington Horses are all warmbloods from the continent. I have one of their "cheapies" that they sell occessionslly, he's a cracking horse, the plan is for him to be my next hunter and so far it looks like he's on course. He's 47% blood but I think they get the odd one in with more.

You have the benefit of time so I personally would keep a close eye on the selling sites- I've had a few great bargains from horsequest who are smartly bred to event but who needed to sell quick for whatever reason.

Yeh thats why I'm tentatively looking now I guess :) I have a decent budget for the right horse but a bargain is always good,

I would ideally like to buy through a breeder/ dealer though just cause I can see multiple at once

Might be worth contact Edmundson eventing on Facebook. They are in Suffolk, and have a lot of homebreds (own stallion). Don't know if they have any 3 yr olds, but its likely. They know a good horse when they see one!

You could try Steve & Mel Jones at Classical Sports Horses (See Facebook page). They're now based in Ireland, but were in the UK up until very recently. Very knowledgeable with a good reputation.

Happy for them to be in Ireland, bought from ireland before & generally sway toward irish breeding tbh!

Thanks for these I will have a look at them :)

Starting early so when the time comes I know where too look!

A few things to maybe bear in mind if you're coming over to Ireland are that prices for top event prospects have significantly increased in the last year at the sales. Most three yr-olds at Monart and Goresbridge Go for Gold made in excess of €20,000. I know those buying are expecting them to be upper level horses but that's still a big increase on recent years.

Also most of the best three yr-olds will be sold by autumn time, as owners will be trying to qualify them for the elite sales or sell privately. People who come sooner, especially at the start of summer can take their pick and often get a better price. Most breeders don't want the whole hassle and rigmarole of going to sales, also they can have niggling doubts about what the horse might make under the hammer, some are also not really up to speed on prices and there you might get a bargain, that's if you beat the dealers to it, who will be calling through the summer.
