Hi all

Am just after some recommendations for a good farrier. My current farrier is really good, but is absolutely impossible to get hold of, never answers his phone and doesn't respond to voicemail or text messages.

Just over a week ago he took Blue's shoes off, as he is currently on box rest for sesamoid ligament damage. He has a tendancy to slip on concrete, and as we live in a really hilly area, I thought it would be best to take his shoes off so he doesn't slip. He was ok for the first few days, but then on Tuesday he was really lame, wouldn't even come out of his stable whilst I mucked him out. I sent farrier a message to ask if this was normal, and had no reply. Thankfully one of my friends came to the rescue and padded his feet for me and gave us some bute to make him more comfortable. My next thought was hoof boots, so we tried some on him from another of my friends, as he is quite spooky, so wanted to make sure he could cope with something on his feet. Anyway, he went mental with hoof boots on, tried to run away from his own feet...

So anyway, I have decided to get his shoes put back on again, as he was doing really well up until they came off. I have tried phoning my farrier, texting him and he's just not replying. He is not away as his phone rings with a UK dial tone. I have had this issue with him before and had to find another farrier, but she didn't really get on with Blue. At this point, I managed to get on the same shoeing cycle as one of the other horses on the yard that my good farrier was doing, so the fact he never replies to messages wasn't an issue.

So as much as I hate to change to a different farrier, I just want one who will at least reply to messages or pick up his phone at some point!! I have tried a few in my area and was less than impressed.

We live near Stalybridge in Greater Manchester, so if anyone has any recommendations of a good farrier, who can cope with a pony who gets bored, without resorting to elbowing him in the ribs to keep him stood still, that would be great.

Thanks, I hate to move away from my farrier as he is really good with Blue, but I need shoes going on asap!
