Good Farriers

See jack barress I had nothing but problems with and hundreds of pounds in vet bills later for a lame horse ( he kept saying nothing wrong when he came several times to take shoe off and have a look) moved to a different farrier and he spotted stright away that the horse had corns. Never used him again and in fact slowly everybody on the yard slowly moved away from him as they had problems.

Matt Taylor in Hampshire...

My farrier is lovely - I've had him for 3 horses now, and he's done a great job with correcting poor feet, as always patient with my current lad who had evidently never been hot shod before despite being told he had...

Always on time - and if he ever is running a few mins late, will text and let you know why, and an ETA. His prices are good for the area, and I've never had a problem with loosing shoes - he once came out at 7pm on a Friday to sort a friends horse that pulled a shoe and stood on it travelling...it wasn't even one of his and considerably out of his way. And wouldn't accept more than a token £5 for it :) He always puts up with my endless questions and is willing to explain everything to me too

Fingers crossed I can bring him round to approving of my plan to go barefoot...

I use Chris Scruton in Wiltshire. We used several younger farriers on our way to him after ours was seriously injured and semi retired, and their shoes fell off, feet didn't look great, they were expensive and unreliable.
Chris has been invaluble in keeping our horses sound, including recomending taking shoes off, is always on time, and is very quiet with the horses, including helping me catch when I can't get near them, and shoeing in a windy field. He does occasionally take a few days to get back to you, but not if its an SOS call, and is very busy, but will always fit you in, tends to work on the weekends a lot to clear the backlog.

Partoow I agree with Billy Crothers, he works with my vet and a few friends have him.

But John Trevor Roper is a flake. He didn't turn up to shoe my friends horse, who he had been doing for years, she had to get another farrier who found a a massive hole under the toe clip that had been there a while.
Quite a few people couldn't get hold of him, some entire yards, and my farrier even had to pick up some of his clients. And I have never seem him ask for a horse to be walked and trotted up by him.

I use Craig Tordoff on the Hampshire/Berkshire border.
Been using him for about 4 years now. was very patient with my youngster and is now great with my grumpy boy. always on time, but on the odd occasion when runing late will phone with an ETA. Even came out at 9pm on a Friday night after his van broke down, and has been out on Sundays to replace a shoe or dig out an abscess. He has improved my horses feet considerably and explains exactly what he is doing and why. Horse has gone from having badly flared feet, with paper thin soles, low heels and prone to abscesses (every 3 months or so) to being able to go bare foot behind and hasn't had an abscess in a year. Very happy horse and owner!
