Right, just thinking about aims and goals for next year - and I definately want to try an intro (will be on a ticket as will probably be a one off!) sometime in the late spring ideally - maybe april/may although right event more important than timing!
Where is a good place to start? By then my horse will be in Maidenhead, Berks. I'm happy to travel up to about 1 1/2 hours in the lorry, so up to about 70 miles or so - although the nearer the better obviously!
We shouldn't struggle with the dressage too much, and SJ I don't mind it being up to height as we are going to be out regularly at 90cm/1m over the winter. The XC is the important bit, he doesn't like dropping into water really, happy to splash in/jump out. Ideally a course with lots of timber fences rather than scary colourful things! ie we would prefer an up to height but straightforward natural looking course than something smaller/spookier. Don't mind twisty/hilly though as generally speed is not an issue, in fact twisty/hilly suits him (lw 15hh) better than some of the bigger horses!
Sorry, that was longer than intended!
One more question - know it depend on event, but approx how much will it cost me to enter/buy my day ticket etc? neither the horse or I are registered!

I work on each costing me a minuim of £100 per event, this is entry fee, plus start fee and diesel. Then of course you have to add on all your training cost

so that's why folk get upset if your balloted out of an BE you want and if doing a ticket you will be first out if event is going to ballot

Hmm, yeah, I figured round about £100 - £150. That is why it will probably be a one off! Training costs are OK - we'd be having the same lessons etc anyway.
Thats good about not having to jump down into water - he will do it but under duress, so I would be more relaxed going into a course if I wasn't thinking too much about that!

Berkshire College is a really nice intro, the first 3 fences are quite well decorated and a bit spooky bu I booted the spookiest horse ever roun it last year without any issues!!

Hmm, good thinking Bossanova, that is super local so would save me diesel costs!! He's seen all their SJ fillers too, so that would be well handy!
What sort of time of year is that one?

There is sometimes a step down all though, there shouldnt be. At Firle there was a step down into water on a corner it was an awful turn for in experinced/young horses.

Good luck, im sure you will have great fun

I think BCA run one mid season now as well a a september one, they also run the odd unaff so keep an eye on their website for those dates.
Other than that Munstead, nr. Guildford is straightforward (although I do find the xc a little hunter trially). MK also another one, usually run a few dates. Aston le walls too.

You also have Twesledown which I thought was quite a nice course, nothing too testing. Also Coombelands in Pulborough is quite a nice one

unfortunately Tweseldown only run PN +
BCA is a good first intro (June)
Or as said above Munstead (March & September)
Larkhill (april) is a lovely intro, its Salisbury, so about 1hour 45mins, but imo worth the trip.
Or if you're feeling quite brave
