I know this won't mean much to most people but I was thrilled today after a very old pal (think - he held the end of the lead for me when I entered my first junior handling competition aged about four!) handed me a copy of Dr Malcolm Willis's "The German Shepherd Dog - It's History, Development and Genetics' and said I could keep it.

We had a copy of 'The Purple Book' years ago but it was leant out and never came back. It is now very hard to get hold of and sells for stupid money online.

He would not take a penny for it or even a bottle! He just said 'you said thanks and I know you will look after it and enjoy it, that's what matters'.

So a bit thankyou to Mr G, a true gentleman!

(I know what I'll be reading tonight!)

I know the feeling, someone handed me a book when I was much younger in a similar situation, gives u a nice warm endearing feeling.

Wow, that is some gift, as you say its selling for quite a lot online. I have Mums copy, I gave a lot of her old handbooks etc to GSD Welfare (which I regret now) but decided I couldn't part with "the purple book".
