Good girl / Nasty boss

Did your daughter have a contract?
Paid proper, contributed to national insurance etc?
If not them I'm afraid it was just a casual cash in hand job and the employer will sack them as she feels.

Annoying as it is.
Not much can be done.

Your daughter should look for a jon where she will be respected ans treated fairly as a proper employee.

I am very sorry that your daughter had such a bad experience. I guess as others have said that it was a 'cash in hand' job and those employers are a bad advertisement for the industry. I am an employer and my staff are well treated, they are fully signed on and insured. They generally stay with me for years at a time but believe me when you employ a bad one it can also be a nightmare and in those cases the employment law does seem to favour the employee. This week, an apprentice who has been with us for 6 weeks during which time she has already had two separate periods of sickness, failed to turn up for two consecutive days with no notice. One of the days we had 5 horses going to a show and at 9am I am ringing all my part timers to try to find emergency cover. Reason for absence? She was not sure she liked working in a yard and she ws thinking about it. Fine but did her phone break, or could she not think while she worked? Can I legally sack her? No she is signed on to a year's apprenticeship - she can leave or do what she likes but I am .....!

Always two sides of every situation! I wish your daughter better luck with her next job.

I totally understand your reluctance to name this person but are you able to name the area of the country? A similar situation happened not a million miles from here, the girl was badly injured and a lengthy court process followed which ended with a handsome payout...
