This weather is unbelievable :(

Torrential rain all day, strong winds, freezing cold and it's still August :eek:

Daughter, bless her, brought the horses in at lunchtime and they were very glad that I decided to leave them in tonight as the forecast for this evening is even worse!

Our little streams are now fast flowing rivers, mud in the gateways and my lovely new carpets are covered in wet doggy footprints!! Yep, its just like winter :(

But what pains me the most is using the hay from the only round bale I have.... in August for Christ's sake! :mad:

Nevermind, cubbing on Saturday so I suppose it really will feel like autumn again.

On a brighter note - the forecast is lovely for next week.........just when the kids go back to school :rolleyes: Mind you isn't it a Bank Holiday coming up - should have guessed the weather would be awful then!

How are you all fairing?

ETA:: Autumn trail hunting - not cubbing ;)

Ours have been in for 3 nights this week so far and very grateful they all look for it as well, shame as the fields are now full of beautiful lush grass.

But we too have the howling gales and the torrential rain. On Monday night the round pens looked like paddling pools!
 
Yep muddy gateways, filthy horses and eating hay that cost me £4.50 a bale as can't open large bale haylage yet for fear of it going off and spoiling :(

I wanted to get some grass mats down before the mud started, my muck heap removed and haylage for winter into the paddock before it got muddy and slippery pants and double pants :C

On the plus side lardy chops may shiver some of her blubber off :D
 
it's rug on..rug off...rug on etc at the moment, havn't had to resort to bringing her in yet tho (well she does have a tree to shelter under;)) Damson bush at top of field not faring too well in this weather, might not be damson vodka i'm putting in hipflask this hunting season!!
 
Vile isn't it? I still think it would be great to be able to see an equine weather forecast. Instead of the usual weather symbols of cloud rain sun etc. we could have rugs, lightweight, heavy weight and so on, flyspray symbols, flyrugs and sunblock.

And isn't it always the way that as soon as the kids go back to school the sun comes out again?

I like it lol good idea. Well my two are in again tonight having been in for most of the day too. They seemed quite greatful and happily tucked into their ( new) hay!

Typical though, my mare goes into horspital next week for her KS operation. I put it off untill september as I didn't want her stuck in a stable during the hot summer months!
 
I didn't have much choice went I went up to feed my mare in the field, she could barely eat for shivering and took every opportunity to get through the gate, after which she dragged me to the yard and bounced into her stable and then refused to come out!!!!

So in she stayed!!

Out with rug on tomorrow so hopefully she won't get so wet!! Afterall it's not particularly cold here yet!

ETA - DEFINATELY AUTUMN COMING - leaves are falling off the trees and its freezing!! in for a harsh winter methinks

Yep :( And shooting starts the weekend after next - I suspect it will be blistering hot for the poor dogs!
 
Ours went out this evening as usual although for the first time since it finally started raining I did put rain sheets on them (properly waterproof ones, not ones that leak!).

Youngsters are out unrugged although they do have access to large barns but so far have declined to use them and have been happily grazing outside whenever I checked on them.

I refuse to do rugs until they are clipped! ;)

Mine too have massive beech and oak trees to stand under but one is a ridiculously thinned skinned, wossy, wimp who shivers uncontrollably, neighs pitifully as soon as she sees me and makes desperate attempts to get through the gate and into her stable! :rolleyes:

Utterly devasted to hear about the damsons though - how awful! We drink a mix of Archers and Gin in our hip flasks :cool:
 
Yep, rugs all round for mine! I felt sick as I put my posh expensive beautiful new rug on the horrible fat (shivering with cold) beastie and tried not to think of how it would look tomorrow. They're not for WEARING ffs...
 
Our field is quite exposed and doesn't have a sHelter so bmy tb has a full neck rug on tonight.it felt really cold and was pouring but he seemed to want to go out and hrried off to joiin hisb friends when I turned him out.

Just got back from picking son up from YFC meeting - not only is it still torrential and windy but foggy too!

There has been such a wash of debris on the road at the bottom of the valley that the highways have been out and put up hazard warning signs :eek:

It is very beautiful here, lovely scenery and the best hacking in the world, etc etc but My God we don't half suffer some extremes of weather (except the sun of course!!) :mad:
 
RW, put a rug on Harley this evening, as I felt sorry for him. Tinner was shocked, then amused, as Harley wandered off, full neck T/O and grazing muzzle. He then grabbed the bottom of the muzzle with his teeth and swung on Harley's head, seriously peeing him off - Harl doesn't like diets!

You are so much more sheltered where you are though, your field and outbuildings are to die for! Have you still got Ellie?

that sounds rather yummy...might have to give it a go if the damsons fail to appear :D
 
Well my pregnant arab mare was shivering badly and refusing to move despite having a lightweight turnout on, so she came bouncing in. My gelding is in during the day anyway, so he got thrown out, but in a combo rug! My youngster was happy as larry out naked and soaking, but came in, as she has a vet appointment in the morning and is a nightmare to catch, so she gets to dry off.

I only have 2 stables for the 3 of them, so musical stables it was!
 
Yep, mine has been in for the past week or so. There's no grass left and she's started to drop weight. Last night I even had to rug her in the stable. Mind you, she is 29, so she's a bit pampered! Still unusual for August though.
 
My lad is still out with no rug on although he will be none too pleased at todays weather I am sure! He has access to a field shelter at all times but never uses it in bad weather. At night I have corralled an area off in front of his field stable and he has this and his stable free access each night with hay in order to get him off the grass for a bit. I still find him stood outside in the rain each morning when he could be in his stable...so it cant be that bad!
 
i'm having the same problems, there is mud everywhere and it is only august! i'm also trying to get good quality hay to stock up but they all seem to be sold out or pre-booked! does anyone know where i can get good hay around sussex please, thanks.
