I am thinking about going for a job in Cheltenham which would mean relocating from the New Forest which has miles of off road hacking. Is there any where with similar access within commutable distance of Cheltenham?

What Grapefruit2021 said.

Plus there's hacking in some areas of the Forest of Dean - not incredibly close to Cheltenham but apparently (according to friends) worth boxing to.

I did a weekend riding holiday using bridlepaths around Naunton, which isn't very far from Cheltenham. It was along the Windrush valley, the Slaughters, close to Bourton on the Water, Slaperton.

Nearly all the bridlepaths were well maintained (we'll forget trying to find the path across the middle of the most massive field of rape which was belly high!), nearly all drivers were considerate and nearly all houses seemed to have stables attached and very suitable for Rupert Campbell-Black.
