Hi all

Previously fed our cob dengie hi-fi lite & top spec lite balancer.
On working with our coach we've recently moved him off the balancer (he can be a bit fizzy so trying to reduce that) and moved him to a vits & mins supplement powder. Dinners were being left so I've tried him on honeychop lite & healthy, however I think the novelty has now worn off and again his hard feeds are mostly left, and only eaten when hay has ran out!

I'd really like to get the vits and mins into him and its currently a bit hit and miss as to whether or not he has it.

Can people advise a chaff where they've had success? Super tasty but won't add too much into his diet please? I've also been lead to believe that we're best avoiding alfalfa because he's a cob and had had mallanders and sallanders?

I'm not an expert at all, so happy to hear all views!

Thanks in advance ☺️

I feed emerald grass tastic it's just chopped grass mine love it they are Arab's and can react to alot of feed, they can't have alfalfa and top spec sent one of them crazy so I feed a powdered balancer from progressive earth it's pro balance and I just add a bit of unmolassed sugar beet just to make it a bit interesting.

I was going to say unmollassed sugar beet too.

My native can't have a whiff of alfalfa and he's fine on this to get his Progressive Earth vitamin and minerals into him. He can be fussy with supplements & eats this up.

I did use Pure Feeds before but when they stopped and re-startes their prices went up & it was faffy needing to buy two bags from them online as I use so little. Pony ate it though!

Thank you - any particular brand you use in the sugar beet? And I assume it needs soaking?

I have speedy beet at the moment but I usually buy the euro beet it's a 12 hour soak but it goes along way and lasts ages you just have to remember to soak it, or a bit of hot water will speed up the process if you get stuck.

I use Simple System Purabeet but I think providing it is unmollased the brands are much a much.

Yes, to soaking. I soak mine up in the morning ready for use in the evening.

Fast Fibre is quick soak if time is an issue but mine didn't do quite so well on that. There is quick soak sugarbeet but couldn't swear that was unmollased as I've never used it.

Before changing feed again have you thought about trying something like a peppermint tea poured over his feed? I sometimes do this as a little treat to warm the feed up in winter and all of mine seem to like it. If it tastes as good as it smells it may do the trick x

I use Allan & Page Veteran Lite in the evening feed (60 second soak) and Agrobs Wiesencobs in the morning one so it can soak in a jug overnight. I don't use much, I get through maybe 2 bags of each a year. I mix with Honeychop oat straw as he's also gone off the Light & Healthy chaff.

This is for a heavyweight cob.

Edit: A&P will send out sample packs if you call them. If you want to try some of the Wiesencobs (or vet lite if A&P have stopped doing this), send me a PM with your address and I'll pop some in the post.
