Well we had no event today (and no inclination to drive to the other end of the country (Co Cork) for tomorrows), so decided to test out OH's newly purchased SJAI registration and do some SJing. As we only have 2 horses at home now and my mare would have had to stand in all morning anyway OH said we could bring her as well.
Weather was lovely all day, sunny with a light breeze, and there were balmoral qualifiers running at another local venue so hoping for a nice stress free outing and home again in time for lunch.
Flo was first in the baby class and she warmed up beautifully (has only been to this venue for dressage before) and jumped practice jumps really well so after only about 20 min she was ready to go in. She jumped a lovely clear first round, and just rolled a pole out of the double (quite short two strided double of verticals) so I was really delighted with her and she also stood really quietly and ate hay when Sophie was doing her class.
Sophie took a bit more warming up, in fact he warmed her up twice (before and after the course walk) and she was going nicely (though they had one misunderstanding just before they went in so had to do another couple so as not to go in on a bad note).
She was jumping really nicely...
fence 2..
and fence 7...
and fence 8 was at the start of the next long side, and they just ran past it. I think OH forgot about his outside rein, swung too wide and over corrected, so they had to circle and come again, and of course she jumped the rest of the course clear
fence 10...
So she didn't touch a fence (and it was a v busy up to height 1m class in quite a tight arena) but didn't get any points. She was a good girl though and still got a few polos. OH was v annoyed with himself, so hopefully it is a lesson learned for the rest of the season. He knows she will jump any sort of a skinny off any sort of turn, so a real bloomer to miss a big wide SJ fence (might put her cheeked snaffle on the next time though just in case)!
And we were home for lunchtime, turned the horses out and I got to watch the racing this afternoon!!
Lovely day!!!
