Got first 'proper' lesson with little ned tomorrow. I moved him to a yard which is a riding school and also breaks/trains young horses in the hope of enlisting professional help, but they have been less than useless. My lessons consist of me riding round for 1/2 hour whilst instructor talks and drinks tea. At the end of me riding around, she points out the obvious "he needs to slow down" "he is on his forehand" and then walks away without offering guidance or advice.

I have schooled and worked with young horses before, but this one has come with all sorts of little quirks, and so it is out of my experience (hence moving to this yard). So I have booked a lesson with the area BSJA coach, in the hope of getting some guidance and training as often as possible.

Absolutely terrified she will turn up and say it's all hopeless, I should give up and he should be shot or something

Ned was good yesterday, but has got into a habit of trying to canter round corners.

Ergh. Tell me it will be ok?

ETA - before anyone says anything, he was sold to me a year older than he actually was, and he has too lovely an attitude to give up and sell on.

If she tells you it is hopeless then she shouldn’t be teaching.

You will be fine, things are never as bad as we think it always feels worse than it looks.

Just remember to relax and breathe it wont help the lesson at all if you pass out.. lol.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I can't, it's indoor school, massive outdoor, big XC course, brilliant hacking and friendly liveries for £20 pw.

Thank you
