Well, it's 4.30 am. I was woken up by a tremendous storm, thunder, lightning, torrential rain, the works, and have just spent the last 25 mins catching Adrian in & putting a turnout with hood on my old mare who hates coming in.

Good mummy or complete nutcase?? You decide...

Got to be up again in 2 hours to go jumping. Ho hum...

That's hysterical! Did you do that in your pygamas and wellies? Now forsure next time it's p'ing down in the middle of the night, your horseys will be waiting for their mummy at the gate!!!! My old showjumper and broodmare (23 and 24) hunkered down and weathered the storm (could see them from bathroom window!) and they'll be lovely and shiny today!:)

Totally off your head T. I would have done exactly the same

I was wearing some very bizarre clothes... a zip up cardigan...nice cold zip on bare skin, some leggings that I found on the floor & my long waterproof coat with a hood... *whispers* think I might have been 'commando'...

Was quite lucky with the hood cos sometimes the horses think I'm a scarey monster in it & won't come near me til I take it off...

Trying to get ready for jumping but soooo tired. Hope I don't need my brain this morning...

Ditto!

Goo for you! I would have done the same to be honest. My TB mare was out all night in a mid-weight and hood! She's my little angel!

So silly question - but why didn't you look at the weather forecast?

All mine were brought in and tucked up muching hay so some of us got a good nights sleep.... only way you'll catch me out at 4.30am is when something is going to foal / calve / have pups.

I once worked for a top sj trainer and we'd been out at a function, coming home dressed to the nines, exhausted after driving in rain so hard we couldn't see beyond the front of the car. She fussed all the way home about her young horses out in the field and when we got back made me drive out to the paddock fence so we could clamber through the muck in our good shoes and check to see if they were okay! Of course they were - tucked up in their shed, snorting at the lights of the car and the two mad women floundering about, swearing in the p***ing rain.

Sometimes it's better just to give into the madness, rather than lying there, feeling guilty and trying to convince yourself they're not melting. The horses generally don't give a damn but then it's not always about them, is it?
