Red-1
I used to be decisive, now I'm not so sure...
Jay Man was back at the vets yesterday, for his final scan on the suspensory ligament. He had a minor strain (front leg) a year ago, but when rested he sagged in his physique and became a wobbler.
X rays showed his neck bones to be OK (for his age), and the vet put him on steroids for inflammation, and he had to come back into work to have his physique lifted agan, starting with gentle lungeing.
The wobblers went within 6 weeks, and since then he has had to be in some work - because of the wobblers, but he really needed the rest - for the suspensory.
So, all winter I was walking a tightrope; work for one condition, rest for the other.
Grrrr.
Yesterday, to all our surprise, the ligament scanned clear! All fibres lined up, the ligament is just a touch bigger, but not so big as to be a problem. All signs of Wobblers have gone. He can now be shod back up and come into some more meaningful work. Just bits and bats this year, but to return to full work next year.
Excess of horses? Ah yes, this was totally unexpected! I was actually taking Jay to see about a nurectomy on the ligament, so he could have a comfortable retirement, not so he could be ridden! I presumed that with the work, not rest, the ligament would not have healed. Excess of horses is because Sidney, my replacement competition horse, is here!
OH and Mother are happily supportive of keeping Sidney as well as Jay Man. Jay will be a year before being back in full work, and even then it would be better if he did not have to be "the one" that I compete. Plus, he has had an injury, so no guarantees that he will stay sound. Also, Sidney took a LOT of finding. He is proving fab. Young, but lovely.
I think it will be beans on toast for a long time!
