hello, just a quick update on my boy!
(basic details-X-rays confirmed navicular in may and vet said 40% chance of being sound again! In fact the insurance form that I got through last week says that he will probably need more medication and likely to be permanently incapacitated)

Today 9 weeks after my AEP came to rescue me, my boy is totally sound and I can ride again. I have been riding in walk only for 5 weeks in boots and he is raring to go. His hoof shape has changed dramatically and has improved so much!

The vet recommended remedial farriery and I can't believe that he would be this naturally sound if he had had wedges etc.
Fingers crossed that his hooves continue to improve and I am under no illusion that we are totally out of the woods yet but considering he was written off just 2 months ago, I am singing my AEP's praises from the roof tops.

Woohooo. Another one bites the dust! Yet another navicular write-off working sound inside three months. How many more do we have to hear about before the scepticism starts to die away and vets and farriers routinely ad barefoot to their list of treatment. Preferably as the first choice option!

Well done Rupertsmum, I know that you had to go through some soul searching to do this against the advice of your vet and farrier. It's VERY hard to do that, and you deserve BIG congratulations.

I am happy to hear this...well done...am hoping it will work for ted's colllateral ligament xx

hi Teds mum i hope this works for you, please keep me updated. my horse is working sound in front shoes only after his damage to both his collateral ligament injuries - one in each foot. I have always said if he ever went unsound again i would go down this route of bare foot, i truly believe in it. But i am so scared of upsetting the apple cart at this moment in time as my horse is working sound and out there competing in dressage and showing, but wouldn't hesitate if he went unsound again. good luck

So what is an AEP please? Just had a possible navicular diagnosis so I would like to learn more about what you have done.

I think the trimmer the OP is refering to is somene who has qualified with KC La Pierre. http://www.appliedequinepodiatry.org/iaep/index.html

Glad you are thinking about barefoot for your navicular horse, hopefully you can find the information you are looking for.

Another site is http://www.epauk.org/

They have a map of all their trimmers so you should be able to find one in your area. I think it would be best to contact a trimmer personally to discuss your horse's needs. Best of luck if you decide to take this route.

Yes my foot trimmer trained with KC and is fabulous. Please try the barefoot route. My vet said no way, and that I must use remedial shoeing and I haven't spoken to him since! He is going to have a bit of a shock next time he comes out to do the boy's vacs and sees him sound as a pound!

Very well done. These success stories make me feel quite tearful. Best wishes to you and your horse and I hope your vet is impressed.

Brilliant news! Congrats. I'd love to see your vet's face when he next comes out. Hopefully he will not dismiss it as a freak occurence (it does happen) and will open his mind to the possibilities. Well done to your trimmer too. This barefoot madness really does work!!! Go figure.
