After accidentally buying an unbroken 3yo 2years ago, riding her 3 times total while she was being broken and about 5 times when bringing her back after being turned away before deciding she wasn’t right, I’ve had a year of pain (emotionally and financially). It looked like she was going to have to be retired, and then a last ditch effort down in Dublin led to her having her SIs injected and a 6 month rehab programme.
She has been tentatively under saddle for the last 6 months but I’ve had other people riding her who are lightweight pros as I don’t want to ruin her.
I had the bit specialist out yesterday and had to ride in the arena for the first time to try the bits and she basically gave me a half lesson/half kick up the arse, and told me that I was more than capable and needed to start enjoying her and bringing her on myself.

It honestly was exactly what I needed to hear, has totally shifted my mindset and given me the confidence to just start enjoying her and seeing where we end up.
so today I joined my neighbour for an absolutely glorious hack and now I can’t stop smiling!

So here’s to horses coming right, to summer days and to leaving aside the what ifs and just enjoying the moments we have!

What a beautiful, beautiful girl ??

can I be nosey and ask who your bit fitter is? I’m in NI too.

Jacqui from equine dental services. She has just started doing the bitting (but has done all her exams) and was incredible- able to use the gag on Poppy without her freaking out (she’s always needed sedated before), identified exactly the sort of bit that would suit her and undid years of my self doubt in an hour! a dentist, bit fitter, instructor and therapist in one! ?
