My little friend Scuffy was PTS yesterday after 13 years of pure happiness

Scuffy was a rescue dog and I got her when I was ten years old. She came from the RSPCA as a cruelty case, and as soon as me and my family saw her it was love at first sight.

Over the past 13 years - she has been my best friend - the best doggie hanky to mop up all those tears, a personal trainer, and bully beater and the most wonderful hangover cuddle you could imagine! I have and probably never will have a dog like her again.

It was with a heavy heart that we sent her on her way yesterday afternoon, even at the age of 14, she was still charging round the garden, showing all the young dogs how it should be done but her mind had gone and it was time to let her go.

So thanks my little friend - you will never be forgotton . I had a gallop for you last night and you would have been proud!!

Love from all who ever met you xxxxxxx

(No pics I am afraid - all at home) xx

She sounds to have been a big part of your life, so my sympathies.
Well done for doing the best thing for her however, when they get to that stage they are incontinent which distresses them and it's kinder to let them go.
It takes courage so well done..

Thanks Henryhorn

Yes - that was a big problem - she lept on going to the loo and not knowing it was happening and then getting upset because she knew doing doodies in the house was wrong.

I always promised myself when the vet said it was time - I would do the right thing - you see all these nutters pumping their dogs full of stuff to keep them alive for a few more miserable months - it was hard but I couldnt bear to see her getting upset anymore. :-(

She was a wonderful dog (Whippet x Jack Russell!! :-))

I am very sorry for your loss. She sounds like a lovely little dog and has been a very big part of your family. It is always so sad when their time comes to leave us, but you know you did the right thing by her, heartbreaking as it is.

Kind thoughts to you and your family,

Tia x

Thanks Tia

she was a little star - my friend has just send me a really nice poem off the petloss site - its author is unknown (this should be enough for a reference)

Nowt like crying your eyes out at work! xx

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Your post has made me cry, you are so brave & I know exactly how you feel, I had to have my beautiful Welsh Springer PTS, it was time, she was tired & ill. You have absolutely done the right thing, but that doesn't make it any easier. XXX

I'm crying too. I really do feel for you. The loss we feel when they go is immense and I remember the pain all too well.

I have just returned from a little walk with my old girl and she kept wanting to turn back, so we did. She has never not wanted to go for a walk, so I am now watching and waiting and hoping that it isn't quite her time yet.

Oh I'm so sorry. *hugs* He sounded like a wonderful 'person' to have around, and I'm sure he'll stick around in soul for a lot longer. xxx

BrowBrow such a beautiful beautiful poem.........brought tears to my eyes, especially with what I am going through with my own dog just now....

Dogs give you everything and ask for so little back............. they are such comforts to have around.......... my heart goes out to you just now.

<<<<<<<<<<< HUGS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That was such a beautiful poem.....like others I can hardly see the screen through tears. I am so sorry to hear of you loss.

RIP Scruffy.x.

I had my old mare PTS on Wed who had been my companion for 18 years. It's very hard to make the decision, but great that we are allowed to do that one last kind thing for our animals and not let them suffer and lose their dignity.
