Good, old fashioned riding macs

Today it has been p'ing down all afternoon and had to pop out this evening on an errand. So I dug out my good, old fashioned long riding mac, complete with leg straps and deep pleated vent at the back to make riding in it more effective. But then I realised that I'd had it for years (and years!!) but not actually ridden in it for most of that time. Does anyone else still own a long riding mac and ever ride in it these days, or are they consigned to history along with cavalry twill jodhpurs and tweed jackets as an everyday riding garment?
 
I have a long Rydale coat (although it's only a few years old, so not much heritage!). I often wear it in the rain and ride in it if I've forgotten your my waterproof chaps!
 
I've just bought myself one! Figured it would be good for riding when it's a bit chilly but not freezing, as well as being at the yard and or riding in rain. I ride in the evening and my legs get pretty cold. I have fleece lined chaps but those are normally reserved for when it's below 0.
 
Oh goodness I'd forgotten beige cavalry twill that had no stretch and jods were such an interesting shape. New fabrics are so much more comfortable.
 
Yes a Barbour type one . Had it at least 20 years. Had shoulder flaps held with straps that fitted under the arms. Horse of the day broke these so held on with bailer twine now ! (This means no wearing it to go down the shops )
 
I had one, old fashioned rubberised cotton, full length and it was worth every penny. Totally waterproof, windproof, thornproof, light coloured so very visible and good for every season. Just stick a fleece or bodywarmer on in the colder months. Passe maybe but it did the job and not being a label hunter, I couldn't care less about that. I'd have one again over a modern one.
 
Can't bear my old Barbour long riding coat from 30 years ago. Keeps you warm and dry, and covers you and half the horse, buts it's heavy waxed cotton - you virtually need a crane to hoist you into the saddle and it doesn't breath so you sweat like a pig if the temperature is above 5 degrees.

So bought a really cheap jack Murphy one in the spring. Not quite as stylish, but it's 90% lighter and breathable, and has the shoulder flaps and leg straps too.
 
I've got a million year old Requisite one that magically still fits me despite the fact I got it when I was about 14. Still keeps you totally dry!

It saved me from landing head first on tarmac about 10 years ago - horse spooked and I almost went out the side door, but the leg strap caught on the cantle and I managed (somehow) to right myself!

Edited to add - this thread has now made me want to go and retrieve it from my parents' house as it hasn't made it up to mine yet!

I have one, but like you, I have barely worn it. My husband who has just come back to riding after a gap of nearly 30 years has dug out his old waxed jacket . Looks very old school but does the job perfectly.
 
I too have an old, old Requisite (Steeds) one that I rarely wore, but it is far too long to walk in so recently bought myself a new long mac to walk the dog in, love it, wouldn;t be without it now.
